Looks like its going to be warm again this weekend. Luckily, we have some wonderful museums if you want to get out of the house, but stay out of the heat. Plenty of evening hikes, movies and concerts let you get out and enjoy the fresh air once the sun goes down.

 

Get out to a Park

Family Nature Night returns to Sertoma Arts Center Thursday evening with an exploration of the advantages of camouflage.

Come and learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders as you explore the Pyrophyllite Quarry with a real geologist Saturday morning.

Join them Saturday at Falls Lake to learn some Basic Orienteering, how to use a compass for navigation.

You have the opportunity to tour the fully renovated mill on Saturday and Sunday at Historic Yates Mill Pond. You are also invited to check out their Special Exhibit, Rich in the Rare through August or learn about Wonderful Wetlands on Sunday.

Join them at Historic Oak View County Park either Saturday or Sunday to learn All About Bugs.

Join Prairie Ridge Ecostation late Saturday night to celebrate National Moth Week. You'll get a chance to head out to their black lights to look for moths. They'll also have activities for kids, Moth Bingo (with prizes!) and a station to upload photos of the moths that you see to citizen science projects. Come back Sunday to take a Wild Walk and learn about identification and research projects you can use when you explore on your own!

Take a Walk in the Woods Saturday at Crowder County Park and discover the animals and plants that call the park home while you help collect data for their Natural Resource Inventory Database and other citizen science projects. Also Saturday, they will have a Discovery Table set up all about Bees.

Blue Jay Point County Park will host a Family Forest Hike Saturday so you can learn how to identify plants, insects, birds and other critters at the park.

Kids Get Crafty and Scream for Ice Cream Monday at Crowder County Park. Kids get to Create a craft celebrating National Ice Cream Month.

Music this Weekend

Its Third Friday in Durham! Join them for a Gallery Crawl and Devon Gilfillian will be in concert Friday evening under the stars at Durham Central Park. Before the free concert, you can enjoy food trucks and craft beer/cider vendors.

Fridays on the Porch of the Carolina Inn features local band the Old Well Wishers and Triangle food truck Bulkogi Truck.

Iris after Dark kicks off the weekend Friday nights with music, small plates and special drinks at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

The Raleigh Jazz Orchestra will be presenting a concert at Pullen Park Tuesday evening.

Movies

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the featured flick at the Wallace Parking Deck in Downtown Chapel Hill Thursday after dark.

Cars 3 will be playing on the big screen at Regency Park Friday night.

Apex Nature Park will show The Greatest Showman on the big screen after dark Friday.

Rock the Park after dark Saturday at Durham Central Park. Food vendors will be on site and the featured flick will be The Sandlot?

The Hot Days /Cool Nights Movie Series at the Carrboro Century Center presents Ice Age Continental Drift Sunday evening.

Monday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center they will present the movie Zootopia.

Starting Monday and running through next Friday, the Halle Cultural Arts Center will be hosting an entire Week of Free Kid's Movies. Click through for the complete line up.

Even More Fun Events

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Science Thursday will be explore Snake Bites.

The Holly Springs Farmers Market presents the Center Street Arts & Crafts Market along with Saturday's weekly market.

Just in time for back to school shopping, the Kids Exchange Consignment Sale returns to the State Fairgrounds this weekend.

The Hunt Horse Complex on the grounds of the State Fairgrounds will be hosting a Indoors Horse Show Friday through Sunday.
