How Are Butterflies Like Chickens?

Betty Ann Knudsen and her husband Peter spent a lifetime studying and collecting butterflies. Betty Ann shared her learning in a book of riddles which she presented to scores of second graders. Betty Ann teaches a class at West Lake Elementary in Apex, N.C. Students and teachers can learn not just how butterflies are like chickens, but also many things about the lives of butterflies, moths, and the habitat that supports them. The Knudsens’ butterfly collection is housed at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences.
