Park Description
Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a 57-acre public garden on the campus of Duke University in Durham, N.C. Among its many attractions are historic Italianate terraces, an Asiatic arboretum, a garden of native plants, a white garden, water gardens, a memorial garden, waterlily pools, a duck pond, and a century-old fountain recently restored and relocated from East Campus. Duke Gardens also has a café, gift shop and visitor center with an elegant rental hall and classrooms. The Gardens offers classes, tours, free drop-in programs for families, and other events for adults and children, as well as internships, spring break camp and summer camp, and volunteer opportunities. Duke Gardens was named one of the South’s 10 best public gardens in Southern Living.
Hours of Operation: Gardens open 365 days a year, 8 a.m. to dusk. Visitor center hours: Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., noon to 5 p.m., except some holidays. Parking fees apply 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri.; 1-5 p.m. Sat. & Sun.
