It looks like the weather is going to stay warm this weekend. With a couple of festivals, some great guided hikes and even some gardening tips, have a super weekend!
Kick Off Black History Month & More
The African American Cultural Celebration at the North Carolina Museum of History will feature over 75 presenters-musicians, storytellers, dancers, historians, playwrights, authors, artists, reenactors, chefs, teachers, and scholars to celebrate North Carolina's diverse African American heritage and culture.
For the past year, Julie Brooks, Megan Clark, Suzanne Krill, Lillian Jones and Betty McKim have challenged themselves to create a pair of earrings every week. The 2011 Earring Challenge exhibit at the Pullen Arts Center showcases the 260 pairs of earrings and the design development process that evolved from this commitment. The exhibit will run until February 28th with a reception on February 9th.
Marbles Kids Museum and the Carolina Ballet are teaming up for Hooray for Ballet. Whirl and twirl your way through the museum. Crafts, moves and mini-performances will celebrate the Ballet's upcoming performance of The Little Mermaid.
Chinese New Year at the Fairgrounds
Head on over to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds for the Triangle's largest Chinese New Year Festival. Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with Chinese and Asian cultural performances, informative exhibits, delicious food and merchandise vendors.
Celebrate Winter at Our Local Parks
The American Tobacco Trail starts off the weekend Friday with an Evening Owl Hike.
Eno River State Park invites you to join them Saturday on a hike out to the site of the Breeze Family Homestead to see the ruins or learn about the fascinating lives and habits of the three species of Owls of the Eno.
For families that love technology and a challenge, Nature's Cache at Harris Lake County Park Saturday afternoon is for you. Using a GPS unit and clues, you get to look for the hidden nature items they have stashed in the park.
Join a Wake County Extension Master Gardener at Historic Yates Mill County on Sunday afternoon to learn helpful hints on how to plant a successful vegetable garden.

Snow Buddies will be the featured film at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday morning.
Art in the Evening Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature live music by Peter Lamb and the Wolves and the 1960 film La Dolce Vita. You are also invited to a lively, in-depth exploration of the Dutch Kunstkamer with a Museum docent.
Egyptologist Caroline Rocheleau sheds light on Egypt's powerful female pharaohs and the great royal wives of famous kings and discusses the role of women in ancient Egyptian society in a free lecture at the NC Museum of Art Sunday afternoon.
This Friday's Laser Light Show at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro will feature the rockin tunes of Pink Floyd set to a spectacular laser light show in their 40 foot OmniSphere dome theater.
