The weather is back in a warming trend so enjoy getting outside to celebrate Groundhog Day (and the Super Bowl).

 Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day!! Sir Walter Wally will be deciding how soon to expect Spring's arrival Sunday at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' annual Groundhog Day celebration. The day's activities kick off at noon. The shadow ceremony where he'll make his prediction begins promptly at noon.

Snerd the Groundhog will reveal his prediction to the Mayor of Garner at 3pm Sunday over at White Deer Park. There will be crafts, games and educational tables featuring live animals.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation will take a walk through the prairie Sunday looking for their Tracks on the Trail and any other signs of wildlife.

Join Historic Yates Mill County Park anytime Saturday-Monday for a drop in program on Wizened Woodchucks & Weather Predictors.

Art and Culture

College students are invited to explore the Contemporary Gallery and talk with student docents, experience VR with the art conservation lab, and experiment with VR Tilt Brush, all while enjoying DJ performances from WXYC Chapel Hill 89.3 FM Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Come enjoy a free concert on the Historic Orange County Courthouse lawn for Last Fridays in Downtown Hillsborough.

Explore your artistic side on Sunday by creating a work of art to take home or to enter the Mill as Muse art contest. The Creative Art Session will feature a variety of inspirational arts and crafts materials will be provided, and a brief slide show will be shown featuring artistic creations related to Yates Mill.

Minions will be the Monday morning meeting at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast Saturday morning and go Birding with Vernon.

Join them at Harris Lake County Park Saturday for Geocaching 101. Learn what geocaching is all about and head out to find a real geocache in the park!

Find Larry the Deer at Umstead State Park. Larry, a taxidermy deer, will be moved to five unique spots in the park. Click through for the coordinates where you can find him. The first five people at each site to send us a picture with Larry will get a free canoe rental this upcoming 2020 canoe season.

Its another Citizen Science Saturday at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning. These Saturday morning adventures will introduce you to a citizen science project and enlist your help collecting and entering data as you enjoy a walk around the grounds with one of their naturalists.

Sunday's Winter Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Confluence Nature Preserve and its mysterious stone etchings.
