The Spring Festivals and Concerts kick up this weekend with something for everyone. Get out there and have a great weekend!

The farmers markets are just about all open now! Holly Springs is one of the latest to open next weekend. Start your Saturday morning off with some fresh produce and flowers. For more information on the area's farmers markets, just go to the Event search on www.ParkGeek.com and type in farmers market under the topic. We can show you where and when the farmers markets are around the Triangle.

 

Spring Daze & More Festivals

 

It is now spring craft festival season! Bond Park will host Cary's Annual Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival. Featuring over 150 local artists, entertainment on four stages, a Children's Village, concessionaires with your favorite festival foods and Cary's Earth Day Celebration it promises to be a fun family event.

Bring your family to a free, daylong Songbird Celebration at Blue Jay Point County Park in recognition of International Migratory Bird Day 2012. There are a wide variety of activities the whole family can join in on including both drop in and those that do require pre-registration. This year's Special Challenge even gives families an opportunity to gather clues throughout the festival and discover the secret message. Click through for all the information.

Mordecai Historic Park will be holding their annual Lawn and Garden Sale. The huge yard sale's profits will go to supporting the park. As a bonus, the Mordecai House will also be open, so you can walk through and enjoy this ante-bellum plantation home.
Duke Homestead will also hold their Community Yard Sale on Saturday.
Its time for the Durham Art Walk Spring Market both Saturday and Sunday in downtown Durham. The Durham Art Walk features visual and performing artists in both traditional and unexpected sites throughout downtown Durham. Sites are within easy walking distance around downtown and stops even include 9-hole putt-putt course and the Museum of Durham History's new History Hub.
This weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of Bennett Place as an official North Carolina State Historic Site and the 147th Anniversary Surrender of the American Civil War. To celebrate, there will be guest speakers, historians, costumed living historians, music, book signings, and the Unity Monument Wreath Laying ceremony.
Saturday will be Green Day in Morrisville. The day will include a Community Tree Planting, Document Shredding & Recycling, a Landscaping Expo and Tree Sapling Give Away, K-9 Demonstrations, Fire Station Open House and Child ID Kit Handout.
Sk8-Cary at Godbold Park will hold an Open House this weekend. Saturday will be for Skateboarding & In-line Skating and Sunday will be for BMX.
HerbFest 2012 runs through Sunday in Wake Forest. Join them for free entertainment, animal petting, live bands, and the largest selection of herbs and local grown, adapted perennials.
Artists, food vendors, musicians and craftspeople set up their wares on the sidewalks around the Hillsborough Courthouse for a Last Friday event. This Friday there will also be a pie contest, an Art Walk and Jeanne Jolly will be in Concert with her band.
 
Fun at the Parks
 
If you have some time Friday morning, Umstead State Park invites you to join them for some Fishing Fun, Ribbit, Hoot and Roar - The Science of Animal Talk or a Wildlife Habitat Canoe Tour.

 

Participants in a Day in the Life at Jordan Lake will engage in hands-on discovery centers focusing on Jordan Lake and the environment on Friday afternoon.
Embrace Arbor Day at Crowder District Park with a Tree ID Hike Saturday morning.
If you like discovering new ways to use technology, you'll want to check out Geocaching 101 at Harris Lake Park Saturday afternoon. They will provide all the equipment and basic training.
Lake Michie will be introducing kids to the fun of fishing during a Fishin' Frenzy on Saturday.
Join local expert John Gerwin Saturday morning at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center to learn how to observe, appreciate and identify Wetland Birds common to our area.
Join Bass Lake Park Naturalist and Master Gardener Sabrina Thompson for a Plant Swap and question and answer session Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
Join a Park Ranger at the Umstead State Park to learn Basic Land Navigation on Sunday afternoon.
If you're looking for a volunteer experience, community service or conservation project for yourself or your group, join forces with the Town of Cary"s Stevens Nature Center and REI for a Volunteer Workday at Hemlock Bluffs on Sunday afternoon.
 
Art, Music & Culture
 
The NC Science Festival continues this weekend throughout the state. The NC Museum of Natural Sciences invites you to join them Friday afternoon for a Raleigh Rockin' Walkin' Tour. The 1-hour walking tour will look at the three major rock types that make up the architecture of downtown Raleigh.

 

The NC Museum of Art will kick off the weekend with a discussion of the power and symbolism of the colorful Egungun Costume, Art in the Evening featuring the sounds of the Mark Wells Trio and the 1965 film, The Ipcress File, starring Michael Caine.
Come back to the NC Museum of Art for a Poetry Slam with Dasan Ahanu and Experiments with Art & Science with the Sierra Club, a Family Fun Saturday event tied in with the NC Science Festival.
The NC Museum of Art launches Music in the Galleries. This Sunday you can enjoy solo and ensemble performances by members of MYCO @ UNC-Chapel Hill.
Meet sculptor Abbe Godwin and hear about her inspiration and artistic process for the memorial she created to honor North Carolina's Vietnam Veterans at the State Capitol on Saturday.
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering the Mill Heritage & Local History Tours this weekend. Learn a little about the business side of operating the mill and then enjoy peeking back into history with a tour of the fully restored mill.
The Muppets will be playing Saturday morning for the Family Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
Immerse yourself in a world of large and small, shadows and shapes, motion and sound in the Math Moves exhibition at the Museum of Life + Science. The Saturday event is a part on the NC Science Festival.
James M. McPherson, author of numerous best-selling books on the American Civil War will give a lecture on Sunday at the NC Museum of History.
Sunday will mark the first of Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series at Carroll Joyner Park. This week's performance will feature Marcus Anderson, who sings and plays the saxophone and flute. The performance will be opened by the gospel group Millennium Revival Center Praise Team.
