 This weekend is a transition between the summer movies and concerts and the fall festivals and harvest celebrations.

Welcome to all you new subscribers! We at ParkGeek.com are excited to share the amazing events in the Triangle with you each week. If you find this newsletter helpful, please share it with others. Our goal is to give every family in the Triangle more opportunities for great together time whether they enjoy hikes and history or festivals and concerts.
 
Festivals & Family Fun
 
The annual Lazy Days Arts & Crafts Festival is back this weekend in downtown Cary. Along with an amazing array of artists and crafters displaying their wares, the festival boasts lots of great festival food, non-stop, live entertainment and a festival within a festival, Kids World.
 
The Raleigh-Durham Afro-Caribbean Association is hosting the CaribMask Festival at City Plaza on Saturday. Come enjoy dancing, masqueraders, exhibits with the latest Caribbean arts, & crafts and fine cuisine.
 
The Salvation Army of Wake County's Community Center is hosting the  Most Amazing Race. The scavenger-hunt-like race is patterned after the TV show "The Amazing Race", and features teams of two completing mental and physical challenges at popular locations throughout downtown Raleigh. There is a registration fee, so click through for the details.
 
For you early risers, Coffee & Cars comes back to the South Parking Deck at the American Tobacco Campus Saturday morning. Grab some coffee & pastries while you enjoy browsing the antique, one-of-a-kind and exotic cars.
 
The Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Raleigh Area brings the Annual Children's Good News Spectacular  to the State Fair Grounds this Saturday.
 
Children can enjoy inflatible games and rides, popcorn, snow cones and drinks, and an illusion show blended with several gospel presentations all for free.
 
They're looking for the Best Dog Tricks in Wake County over at Crowder Park this Sunday. If your dog has a special talent, come and show them off. There will be prizes for both youth and adults.
 
Come on out to Parrish Womble Park on Sunday and celebrate Costa Rico's Independence Day at the Fiesta de la Paz.
 
Come and X-Train with the YMCA of the Triangle on the lawn of the American Tobacco Campus on Monday. Stay after the Class on the Grass and enjoy healthy snacks and smoothies. 
 
History
 
Discover Historic Yates Mill, a place of business, community, and exciting local history! Explore the inner workings of the mill itself and witness the power of water as it turns the milling machinery this weekend by taking a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour.
 
You can also step back in time at the Mill and try your hand at Cane Pole Fishing Saturday morning. They will provide everything you need along with some basic instruction.
 
Join a Historic Preservation Society of Durham volunteer on a Durham Architecture & the Urban Landscape Walking Tour  to learn about the many architectural styles popular in the 20th century in Durham.
 
David Moore, Professor of Archaeology and Anthropology at Warren Wilson College will be Exploring Fort San Juan, one of three Spanish forts built on NC before the English even arrivied on Roanoke Island. The free lecture at the North Carolina Museum of History will take place Sunday afternoon.
 
Learn how North Carolina became home to one of the world's largest and most biologically significant bird parks on Thursday night's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
 
Movies & Music in the Triangle
 

This Thursday marks the last Oak City 7 Concert of the Summer. Head on over to Raleigh's City Plaza to enjoy concerts by Paleface, the Debonzo Brothers and Big Daddy Love.

Mipso Trio will perform their energized bluegrass and indie music with Morning Brigade at Thursday night's Locally Grown Concert in Chapel Hill.

Friday night is also the last Summer at the Springs Concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Pack a picnic and come enjoy the 60's and 70's tunes of the band Long Time Gone.

Art in the Evening returns to the NC Museum of Art with live music by the Hey Brothers and an Art Exploration about Bringing the Outdoors In. Friday night's outdoor movie will be the 2011 hit by J.J. Abrams, Super 8.

Sholay, one of the most popular Bollywood movies will be playing under the stars Friday night at Regency Park. Released in 1975, this Indian action-adventure film is considered by the Encyclopedia of Hindi cinema to be among the greatest films in Indian cinema.

Come back to Regency Saturday night with the kids to enjoy Madagascar 2 as well as pre-movie games and activities including Alex's Dance Off Contest and the Best Granny or Hat of Shame competition.

The Museum of Life & Science welcomes you to kick off your weekend with Fridays Made Easy. Explore all the indoor and outdoor exhibits at a discounted price until 8pm.

The Natural Science Center of Greensboro invites you to Laser Zeppelin Friday night. This evening laser show features songs from the music of Def Zeppelin set to an amazing laser light show across a 40 foot OmniSphere Dome Theater.

Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, treat your kids to the movie, The Lorax.

As a great finale to the weekend, the Raleigh Concert Band will be performing Sunday evening out at Pullen Park.

Enjoy the Outdoors

 Join a park ranger at William B Umstead Park for a peaceful hour of Fishing Fun on Big Lake Thursday evening.

Come explore the wondrous world of nature at night on a Night Hike through the woods along the Eno River Friday night. Join a Eno River State Park Naturalist on a short hike and learn to identify Animal Tracks & Scat on Saturday. Come back to Eno River State Park Sunday for a family friendly Scavenger Hunt.
 
Come, learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders and explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist Saturday morning on a Geology Hike.
 
Take a walk with a park naturalist at Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve Saturday after dark to explore the woods and fields on a FamilyTwilight Hike.
 
Join a Ranger paddling around Jordan Lake on a Canoe Hike Sunday morning to explore the Park from a different perspective.
 
The Hunt Horse Complex at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host an Outdoor Horse Show all weekend.
