Welcome to a fabulous fall festival weekend and the kick-off of the PARKGEEK PASSPORT CHALLENGE! There are so many awesome festivals throughout the parks and museums this weekend to pick from with a great variety of music, culture and activities. Downtown Raleigh will host both Bugfest and Sparkcon and just five miles down the road Historic Yates Mill Park will host the Fall Harvest Festival.

If you have never been to Bugfest, you can't imagine how an incredible collection of bugs can make for a fantastic event packed full of activities. If you have been to Bugfest before, you already know what an entertaining event it is. Bugfest is the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science's biggest and wildest annual event. Promising to be bigger and better than ever, Bugfest fills the museum as well as the outdoor mall with everything buggy. For the really brave, there will be an assortment of delicious bug-filled delicacies at the Café Insecta.

For the slightly more adult crowd that doesn't want to fight the crowds, Bugfest transforms into the Evening Insectival at 5pm. The evening crowd can relax with a new round of activities and live music to finish out the evening.

ParkGeek is excited to launch the PARKGEEK PASSPORT CHALLENGE at BugFest! Come find our booth outside on Jones Street and start the Challenge! Starting this Saturday at BugFest and running through First Night Raleigh on January 1st, the Passport Challenge will be a fun, scavenger type hunt using QR Codes to log in a wide variety of fall events and parks. How many Challenge Destinations can you log?

The official start to BugFest is the Café Insecta Cook-off Friday morning. Two local chefs go head to head in a bug-cooking battle. Taste-testing judges include Debra Morgan from WRAL, Steve Daniels from WTVD, Julie Fertig from News 14 and their own Canopy Meg

Festivals Throughout the Triangle

Celebrate the fall season by participating in a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations at the Harvest Celebration at Historic Yates Mill County Park. Learn how corn and wheat were traditionally harvested, stored, and processed, and explore harvest-related handcrafts featuring corn shucks and wheat straw. Listen to old time music, and enjoy harvest songs and dance. Do you have a fabulous cornbread recipe? Yates Mill invites you to make your most delicious recipe using cornmeal and enter their Cornmeal Cook-Off Contest.

Not only will Downtown Raleigh be full of bugs this weekend, but they are also hosting the annual SPARKcon Festival.
