 It looks like Sandy has past and the sunshine will be back to make a gorgeous fall weekend!

This weekend, the ParkGeek Passport Challenge highlights the Wake County Parks. Explore the past at Historic Oak View County Park & Historical Yates Mill County Park or try the disc golf course or mountain bike trails over at Harris Lake County Park. The Crusher fine trail on the American Tobacco Trail is great for an afternoon bike ride and your kids will love the turtles and playgrounds over at Crowder District Park. Enjoy the scenic lake, trails and garden at Lake Crabtree County Park or get back into nature on the trails at Blue Jay Point County Park. All the Wake County Parks have unique ammenities and programs to offer ParkGeeks of all ages. 
 
First Friday

The Titanic is still at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences! Enjoy extended hours, discounted tickets and this month's First Friday Movie, the 1955 Phantom from 10,000 Leagues.

Also Downtown, First Friday events will be featured at the Raleigh City Museum, Marbles Kids Museum and throughout the city on a Gallery Tour.
Head on over to Raleigh's City Market Friday night for the 2nd Annual Pig Wars. Along with delicious BBQ available for purchase, Craig Thompson will be playing live music. 
 
Art in the Evening is back at the North Carolina Museum of Art with tunes by the Davis Dyer Trio. While you are browsing the galleries, join in on a Gallery Tour or stay to watch the 1946 flick, The Big Sleep.
 
If you are near Downtown Raleigh at lunchtime Friday, check out Colossal Collard Day at the NC State Farmers Market.
 
Bass Lake Park invites you to join them for Family Fun Night. Start the night with arts & crafts, live animals and fishing. End the evening with a concert with interactive kid favorite, Trish Miller.
 
The Cary Town Band will be playing a Fall Concert about Yesterdays Remembered Friday night at the Cary Arts Center Theater.
 
Festivals & Fun at the Museums
 
 Pack a picnic lunch and some scarecrow accessories Saturday morning and head on over to the Pullen Art Center for the annual Scarecrow Festival.
 
Also at Pullen Park on Saturday will be the Share Fair Raleigh. Come Join them for a day of live Music, Games and interactive exhibits for children, and an educational exchange. They will be accepting donations to a local food bank and sharing a potluck lunch.
 
It is time for Hollyfest in Holly Springs again! After being postponed last weekend, Hollyfest is back this Saturday with sunshine and fun for all. Enjoy food, music, crafts, games and contests for kids, racing pigs and more. Make sure you stop by the Cub Scout Pack 356 booth for some scrumptious hot dogs and baked goods.
 
Spend a day exploring the ocean in the middle of downtown Raleigh at  Marine Mammal Day.The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences invites you to come check out the educational stations, kids activities and interactive booths on a wide variety of marine topics.
 
For the 24th consecutive year, 400-500 handbell ringers from several States come together for two days of ringing and learning for the Capital Area Handbell Festival. You won't want to miss their final concert on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Labor of Love Horse Show will be at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds all weekend. If you have a horse lover in your family, these weekend shows are a great opportunity to get up close and watch a show live.
 
The Annual Train & Railroadiana Show & Sale returns to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Sponsored by the Neuse River Valley Model Railroad Club, a non-profit educational organization chartered to promote the hobby of model railroading. There will be several operating layouts on display and vendors selling train related merchandise.
 
The Tar Heel Tale Tellers will be bringing tales to life through their dynamic, humorous and unique performances at Marbles Kids Museum Saturday. Sunday brings Hooray for Ballet to Marbles with crafts, dance play and mini-performances with Raleigh's City Ballet.
 
Shrek will be playing on the big screen at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday Morning.
 
Enjoy Fall at the Parks

Kick off November early Saturday with some Birding with Vernon. Lake Crabtree's resident bird enthusiast will guide you on one of his monthly walks. Lake Crabtree also invites you to enjoy the Beauty of Fall while you discover what makes the leaves turn various colors, and learn what other changes are taking place around the park.

On Saturday you can also explore the amazing colors of fall during a Fall Foliage Hike. Come on out to Historic Yates Mill County Park to discover what these natural colors tell you about the environment. On Sunday, you can Leave it to Beavers and find out how beavers make homes for other wildlife and how they helped save Yates Mill. You are also invited to take a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour of the fully resored mill.
 
Learn the different trees that are showing their colors and explore the Occoneechee Mountain's fall display on a guided Fall Color Hike Saturday morning.
 
Have you ever wondered what to do If you get lost in a park? Come out to Eno River State Park on Saturday and learn some strategies and some helpful things to have just in case this happens on a trail.
 
Bring the whole family over to Harris Lake County Park Sunday afternoon to enjoy a Family Hay Ride. You will get to take a leisurely ride through some of the special areas of the Park to see what's happening in the woods this time of year and enjoy a cup of hot apple cider
 
On Tuesday morning, you are invited to take a Walk Through the Seasons at Prairie Ridge Ecostation.
 
TORC will be hosting a Night Ride on Tuesday night out a Lake Crabtree County Park.
