It looks like the weather is going to stay cool this weekend. Luckily, there are several super indoor events so you can get the family out of the house and stay warm.

Festivals Galore & More
 

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in conjunction with NASA brings Astronomy Days to Raleigh both Saturday and Sunday. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a wide variety of exhibits, presentations and activities throughout the weekend. Click through for a list of what's going on.

The African American Cultural Celebration at the North Carolina Museum of History will feature over 75 presenters-musicians, storytellers, dancers, historians, playwrights, authors, artists, re-enactors, chefs, teachers, and scholars to celebrate North Carolina's diverse African American heritage and culture.

 

Celebrate the Year of the Snake at the Triangle's largest Chinese New Year Festival. The annual event at the State Fairgrounds will feature Chinese and Asian cultural performances, exhibits, food and merchandise vendors offering arts and crafts for the entire family to enjoy.

 
Can you guess how many different animals can be found in the NC Museum of Art's collection? This Saturday's Family Fun Saturday features a gallery tour and studio workshop for an animal-inspired exploration.
 

 

 

The Fun Starts Friday
 

Friday is Family Game Night at the Museum of Life and Science!

Thursday night's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will feature a Poetry Scope. Come unwind as you listen to five Triangle-area poets as they read and discuss their science-inspired poems.

 

The Raleigh Winterfest Ice Rink remains open through January 31st. Click through for info on all the themed days and special deals.
 
Art in the Evening will kick off the weekend at the NC Art Museum Friday night with extended hours, special drinks & small plates and live music. The Friday Night Sound Bite will explore subjects that inspired images of love and passion, with stories to stop your heart. End the evening with a screening of the 1958 Orson Wells film, Touch of Evil.
 
In preparation for the upcoming competition, Historic Yates Mill County Park invites your budding artists to join them Saturday afternoon for the Mill as Muse Pre-Event Creative Art Session.
 
The Incredibles will be playing at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday Morning.
 
Celebrate Winter at Our Local Parks
 

 

 

Join a Park Ranger Thursday afternoon at William B. Umstead State Park to learn about some of the Animals that inhabit the park.

Bundle up Friday morning for a Trail Workday and help the Occoneechee Park Ranger complete the improvements on the Occoneechee Loop Trail.

 

The Wake Forest Parks & Recreation Open House Friday evening at the Flaherty Park Community Center offers a great opportunity to meet instructors, see demonstrations and enjoy group performances with current program participants.
 
Come and learn about Occoneechee Mountain's Geologic Wonders Saturday afternoon to explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist!
 
Durant Nature Park invites you to join them for a Story and Craft Saturday evening. You will take a hike in the woods to learn all about the different owls that make Durant woods their home. After a hike you'll warm up by the fire and roast some marshmallows.
 
Learn the best techniques for capturing great Winter Photographs at Harris Lake County Park on Saturday afternoon.
 
Leave your GPS at home and learn how to find your way using only a compass and a map during Orienteering 101 at Lake Crabtree County Park Saturday afternoon.
 
Learn how to do Winter Tree Identification on Sunday afternoon at William B. Umstead State Park.
 
Historic Yates Mill County Park is offering another one of their great Track Out Camps starting Tuesday. The three day camp will let both home schoolers and Track 3 students wear the hats of a geologist, archeologist and historian as they explore the first people who used the land and the colonial families that built Yates Mill.
 
Tuesday morning brings a Walk Through the Seasons at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning. Take a leisurely 1-mile walk with a Museum naturalist to explore the changing seasons in the prairie, pond and lowland arboretum.
 
Harris Lake County Park will remain open until 8pm on Wednesday for Fishing Under the Stars.

The Raleigh Winter I Hunter Show will run all weekend at the Hunt Horse Complex at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. The indoor hunter/jumper show gives any horse lover a front row seat to the action.
