This weekend is all about Art. There are artists to meet at the NC Art Museum, the Mill as Muse on display at Historic Yates Mill and the Community Arts Festival running through Saturday at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

Art & Culture Abound

The Annual Mill as Muse exhibition at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will feature local works of art and photographs that capture the old mill and the beauty of the park's natural environment. All 2013 entries will be displayed Saturday and Sunday.

The Holly Springs Community Arts Festival continues through Saturday. The event showcases local artists, writers, performers, instructors, artisan exhibitors and vendors and will culminate with a Gala fundraising evening & art raffle, featuring a performance and entertainment by Holly Springs' resident wire artist, Jonathan Daniels on Saturday night.

Art in the Evening kicks off the weekend Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art along with An Evening with the Artists of Dwelling. Come enjoy food trucks, live music by Scott Sawyer and featured artists Page H. Laughlin and Pamela Pecchio. The Friday Night Sound Bite will explore Love Gone Wrong and the featured flick is the 1944 classic, Cobra Woman.

 
Come join in the spirit of GLORY Another Soulful Celebration! featuring the JUDA Dance Ministry as they bring African-American History alive on Saturday at the Paige Walker Arts & History Center.
 
Downtown Wake Forest will present their first Mardi Gras Street Festival on Saturday. The day will feature fun-filled activities for children and adults, including a children's parade, face painters, strolling entertainers, live music, inflatables, entertainment, games and much more.
 
Explore the lives and accomplishments of African American North Carolinians from the antebellum period to the Civil Rights era on a guided African American History Tour at the North Carolina Museum of History Saturday afternoon.
 
In addition to the art exhibit, Historic Yates Mill County Park will also host Farmer Boys and Pioneer Girls for kids on Friday, and Natural Colors and Primitive Paints of the Ancient Arts for all ages on Saturday morning.

The Raleigh Little Theatre will provide Storytellers to Go this Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of History. See folk stories come to life onstage and get involved in the fun as you travel the North Carolina mountains with Jack as he takes some Appalachian Adventures.
 
Create unique handmade gifts just in time to surprise your valentine. Team Marbles will lead cupid-inspired activities in a Valentine's Day Make Shop Saturday afternoon. Come back Sunday to celebrate Children's Dental Health Awareness Day.
 
Thursday night's Science Cafe will feature a fun and competitive evening of Science Trivia along with extended gallery hours and discounts to the Titanic exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
 
Teens and up are invited to the Tarboro Road Community Center Saturday to decorate an Eco-friendly Tote Bag using natural materials to make prints.
 
Traditional musician, Jeff Warner will delight an audience with his interpretations Sunday afternoon during a Music of the Carolinas at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
 
Join the Bulltown Strutters in a musical march through downtown Durham on Tuesday for their annual Mardi Gras Parade.

Do you need a little time to yourself at the end of the week? Drop your kids off at Walnut Creek Wetland Center for Kid's Nature Night. They'll learn about nature, go for a short walk, play games and do a craft. They will even have popcorn and a big movie screen!
 
Take a trip back into history with a tour of the historic Piper-Cox House. The early 1800's home in Eno River State Park will be open for tours. Come back Sunday for a History Hike of the Cole Mill.
 
It's courtship season for Owls, and love is in the air. Join a ranger at Eno River State Park on Saturday to learn about the fascinating lives and habits of the three species of owls you might hear calling at the park this time of year. Also on Saturday, you can practice your Birding Skills with their expert and see what species are migrating through the park.
 
Learn about Bluebirds, why they need our help and ways we can attract them to our backyards from a bluebird expert from the North Carolina Bluebird Society on Saturday at Durant Nature Park.
 
Join a Park Ranger Sunday morning at William B. Umstead State Park for a 2-mile round-trip hike to an Old Mill Site along Crabtree Creek and learn about the importance of mills to the history of the park.
They will be Star Gazing over at Harris Lake County Park Monday night after dark.
