It looks like a few days of rain might open up to a beautiful weekend.

The "Find Your Cool" Summer Concert Series Thursday night at CCB Plaza will boast the Pop/Americana sounds of The Pinkerton Raid. In case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors.
 
The Art of Cool @ The Stack will highlight the tunes of Al Strong.
Science Trivia is back to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Thursday evening along with extended hours and additional special programming.
 
MikeMickXer, three Garner area musicians are coming together for a Music Off Main Concert Thursday with their unique blend of Rockabilly, Reggae, R&B and Funk.
 
Bring the whole family to the Halle Cultural Arts Center Thursday evening for a Family Dance. Traditional Dance Caller Connie Carringer, will teach fun dances for the whole family

First Friday
 
Do you have a rising kindergartener? Marbles will host Kick-off to Kindergarten Friday evening so your child can practice a lunch line, get moving at recess, hop on a school bus and explore circle time. This Friday's event is aimed at year round kindergarteners. There will be another Kick-off to Kindergarten event for traditional school kindergartners in August.

 

Pop the popcorn, shake on the salt and melt the butter. There are even more great movies hitting the big screen this weekend! The fun starts Friday night over at Regency Park with a screening of Argo.
 
First Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences brings the movie Starcrash to the big screen along with live music by Davis Kroll, discount tickets to their special exhibit, Dinosaurs in Motion, and an opening reception for painter Dawn Rentz.
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art will be grooving to the tunes of David Dyer & The Crooked Smile Band as well as exploring the Language of Light. Bring the kids back Saturday to learn the Art of Paper Engineering.
 
City Market is joining forces with the Red Light Film & Art Project to make June's First Friday all about art. Cobblestone Hall will be hosting the Just Art with food, beverage, raffle, a silent auction and an art gallery displaying work from 50 local artists. Outside, there will be the usual First Friday festivities with shopping, beverage vendors and live music by American Manna. You are also invited to explore the First Friday Gallery Walk throughout the galleries and restaurants in Raleigh.
 
Join the Triangle Brass Band for an evening of marches, musicals, light classical music and traditional brass band tunes Friday night at the Sertoma Amphitheatre.
 
Center Stage at American Tobacco Friday night will feature a Dance Party with Yo Mama's, Big Fat Booty Band & Ironing Board Sam along with food trucks, kids play area and beer.
 
Head on over to Bass Lake Park Friday night for their monthly Family Fun Night. Start with some fishing, arts & crafts and live animal demos and end with a special kids show.
 
Crowder District Park also invites you to join them after dark to listen to the chorus of Frogs and Toads as the sun sets.

The North Carolina Zoo invites you to celebrate World Oceans Day with them on Saturday.
 
Family Fun Days is a special summer series held on the second Saturday of the month from June through September. Each Family Fun Day will include guided tours, children's activities, a farmers market, shopping, and dining in Downtown Hillsborough.
 
The Hills To Holy Water Music Arts Tour is bringing local NC flavor and entertainment to Moore Square Saturday. Join them for an afternoon in the park enjoying Fresh Seafood, Fresh Music, Fresh Beer & Fresh Art.
 
Shrek 2 will be the featured Movie @ Your Library at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday morning.
 
Drop by the Halle Cultural Arts Center Saturday morning for arts and crafts, story telling, songs, games and more!
 
Come find Parkgeek at Sunday's Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo in City Plaza. There will be over 40 trucks and a very festive atmosphere.
Sparky & Rhonda Rucker will be sharing their version of American History through song and story on Sunday afternoon at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
This Weekend's Sunday in the Park Concert will feature Brooke Hatala, The Village Band and Tight Squeeze at Pullen Park.
 
The Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Brave.

Second Saturday
 
Second Saturdays through the summer will bring special activities at the State's 37 museums and historic sites. The Duke Homestead State Historical Park is hosting Bull Fest. Get back to the Bull City's roots and help them celebrate everything that is Durham from its history to its local artists, food and entertainment!

 

The North Carolina Museum of History will feature Artist at Work: Hal Pugh making traditional earthenware pottery, a Make it Take it Pottery Craft and Our State Day. Come Celebrate the Our State magazine's 80th anniversary with bluegrass music, guest speakers and samples of cakes, smoothies and s'mores.
 
Get up close with some of Union Square's most popular residents, the red-tailed hawks, and other birds of prey during a live Raptor Program at the State Capitol.
 
Over at Bennett Place Historic Site, you are invited to Join the Calvary and learn what the cavalryman did during the American Civil War.
 
Period-costumed living historians will demonstrate how soldiers made meals, maintained their weapons and uniforms and trained for battle at Bentonville State Historic Site as they explore the life of a Civil War Soldier.
 
There are events going on at all 37 State Historic Sites, but there are three more I wanted to mention because they would make fun day trips. There are a variety of events at Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens, Battleship 101 on the Battleship North Carolina and Model Military: Visualizing History in Scale, a exploration of the use of scale models as a method to create 3 dimensional representations of the tools of the military trade at Fort Fisher.
 
Hikes & Programs
 
The State Parks will be busy this weekend. Raven Rock is throwing a Pollinator Party, Jordan Lake brings back the kids CAST proogram,

 

Eno River State Park will host its monthly Open House at the historic Piper Cox House. Beginning Fishing, a Game Day, Fishing with the Naturalist, a Cox Mountain Hike, a Spider Program and a Snake Program on Saturday.
 
Walnut Creek Wetland Center invites you to learn about Spiders at the Swamp on Saturday or come back Tuesday to check out some Wetland Birds.
 
The Wake County Parks are offering a wide variety of programs this weekend. You can learn about the Year of the Snake at Lake Crabtree or try your hand at Wilderness Survival at Harris Lake. Its a Service Saturday at Crowder Park
 
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering Saturday at the Old Mill Tours to give you an opportunity to explore the inner workings of the fully restored grist mill and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday.
Durham's tobacco heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents on a Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour Saturday morning.
 
The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host a Gem & Jewelry Show and an Open Breed Horse Show.
