This weekend is a transition between the summer movies and concerts and the fall festivals and harvest celebrations.

Festivals & Family Fun

The annual Lazy Days Arts & Crafts Festival is back this weekend in downtown Cary. Along with an amazing array of artists and crafters displaying their wares, the festival boasts lots of great festival food, non-stop, live entertainment and a festival within a festival, Kids World.

The Piedmont Wildlife Center will host a 24 hour BioBlitz at Leigh Farm Park Saturday. Everyone is invited to help combine research, education and celebration. 

The Raleigh-Durham Afro-Caribbean Association is hosting the CaribMask Festival at City Plaza on Saturday. Come enjoy dancing, masqueraders, exhibits with the latest Caribbean arts, & crafts and fine cuisine.  

The Salvation Army of Wake County's Community Center is hosting the Most Amazing Race. The scavenger-hunt-like race is patterned after the TV show "The Amazing Race", and features teams of two completing mental and physical challenges at popular locations throughout downtown Raleigh. There is a registration fee, so click through for the details.

A Walk in the Park is the theme of this Saturday's Family Fun activity at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Take a "trip" to Yosemite's Bridal Veil Falls in the American Galleries, and then venture outside to create your own masterpiece in the Museum Park.

 
The Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Raleigh Area brings the Annual Children's Good News Spectacular to the State Fair Grounds this Saturday. Children can enjoy inflatible games and rides, popcorn, snow cones and drinks, and an illusion show blended with several gospel presentations all for free.
 
Also with a Christian focus, you are invited to Praise N Park at Moore Square Saturday afternoon. The free event will feature music by some of Raleigh's finest worship bands.
 
The Holly Springs Cultural Center is holding an Open House Saturday so you can explore all the opportunities their fall classes have to offer.
There will be free Arts and Crafts activities for kids of all ages at the Halle Cultural Arts Center for another Super Fun Saturday.
 
They're looking for the Best Dog Tricks in Wake County over at Crowder Park this Sunday. If your dog has a special talent, come and show them off. There will be prizes for both youth and adults.
 
Come on out to Lake Wheeler Park on Sunday and celebrate Costa Rico's Independence Day at the Fiesta de la Paz.
 
Laurel Hills Park is the place to be Tuesday night for the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition. The event allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. It is open to both boys and girls ages 6-15.

History
 
Discover Historic Yates Mill, a place of business, community, and exciting local history! Explore the inner workings of the mill itself and witness the power of water as it turns the milling machinery this weekend by taking a Saturdays at the Old Mill Tour or a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday.
You can also enjoy the park from a different perspective and Paddle the Pond both Saturday and Sunday or try your hand at Cane Pole Fishing Sunday afternoon.
 
Join a Historic Preservation Society of Durham volunteer on a Durham Architecture & the Urban Landscape Walking Tour to learn about the many architectural styles popular in the 20th century in Durham.
 
This Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences features Into Africa, a discussion about how non-scientific influences - art, history, religion, politics, culture, philosophy impact scientific research. In addition to the speaker, don't forget the Museum stays open until 9pm every Thursday and offers discount tickets to Dinosaurs in Motion which closes September 12th.
 
Come and learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders as you explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist on a Geology Hike Saturday morning.
 
Join a real Geologist at Marbles Kids Museum on Sunday to explore rocks and fossils, and go on a rock hunt around the museum.
 
Movies & Music in the Triangle
This Thursday marks the last Oak City 7 Concert of the Summer. Head on over to Raleigh's City Plaza to enjoy concerts by River City Ransom, The Roman Spring, Young Cardinals and Toon & The Real Lawwfeat. Lucky Island In The Middle East.

 

 

Hitchcock"s Psycho will be scaring the audience at Thursday night's last Locally Grown Movie of the season in Chapel Hill.

 
Art in the Evening returns to the NC Museum of Art with live music by the David Dyer and the Crooked Smile Band and an Art Exploration about The Impressionist Portrait. Friday night's outdoor movie will be the 1958 Hitchcock classic, Vertigo.
 
Traditional Dance Caller, Connie Carringer will teach fun dances for the whole family accompanied by an old-time string band Friday night at the Halle Cultural Arts Center for a Family Dance.
 
The Fantastic Shakers will provide the music for Friday night's family friendly Summer at the Springs Outdoor Concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 
Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, treat your kids to the movie, Brother Bear. Monday's morning movie will be The Sword and the Stone.
 
As a great finale to the weekend, the Nixon, Blevins and Gage will be performing Sunday evening out at Fletcher Park.
 
The Midweek Music Series Concert at the American Tobacco Campus will bring The Breakfast Club to the stage Wednesday evening.
 
Enjoy the Outdoors
 
Take a guided Night Hike on the trails to listen and look for signs of creatures of the night Friday evening after dark at Harris Lake County Park.

 

Bring the whole family back to Harris Lake County Park Saturday morning for some Family Disc Golf! All levels of players are welcome and there will be professionals on hand to help beginners.

 
Join the Naturalist at Eno River State Park Saturday afternoon to examine the Skins & Bones of real animals found in the park. If you have kids that are up early, you could let them try a little Beginning Fishing Saturday morning.
 
Come back to Eno on Sunday to take an Ecology Hike, learn Fly Fishing Basics or go Fishing with the Naturalist.
 
Right around the corner, they will be looking for Dragonflies at Occoneechee Mountain Saturday.
 
The Ranger at William B. Umstead State Park will be exploring the Animals that live in the park on Sunday afternoon.
 
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rangers will present the amazing adaptations of some of our local Birds of Prey on Sunday afternoon at Falls Lake State Recreation Area.
