We, here at ParkGeek, hope you and your family are enjoying all that the Holiday season has to offer and that you have had a great year. There are several fun and entertaining events to participate in to end 2013.

 

There are still a few Christmas events. Laser Holidays at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro is showing daily through New Years Eve. The 3D film, The Light Before Christmas will also be shown daily through the 31st.

 
For any of those last minute gifts you need to pick up, the Holly Daze Pop-up Shop, featuring local artists and vendors will be open in Downtown Cary through December 21st.
 
The American Tobacco Campus is also hosting the Hatch Pop-Up Shop through January 3rd featuring unique gifts. After shopping, check out the Triangle Tree Challenge. Once you see all the decorated trees, go online and vote for your favorite non-profit decorated tree so they can win prizes.
 
Once the temperatures go back down, check out the Ice Factory at American Tobacco. The outdoor rink features special nights like Tacky Holiday Sweater Night on December 19th and Hurricanes Night on December 26th.
 
The Raleigh Winterfest Ice Rink is open through February 1st. The rink features Carriage Rides on Thursday nights and a DJ on Fridays.

Museums Host More Holiday Fun
 

 

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will host Pizza & a Movie Night Thursday with the family feature Despicable Me 2. Come back to the Halle Friday evening for Las Posadas, including a processional, pot-luck dinner, pinatas and singing.

Join the Burwell School Historic Site at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church for the 12th year of Allan Gurganus' and Michael Malone's performance of Charles Dickens', A Christmas Carol. The Thursday and Saturday evening performances do have an admission fee.

 
Holiday Family Fun Friday gears up Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art for an Alpine-themed holiday extravaganza. Enjoy games, crafts, stories, and lively tunes including the regal sounds of a real alpenhorn, and make sure to visit St. Nicholas. The Porsche Biergarten is open for family dining. Children visit Porsche by Design free with a paying adult. You can also explore a Sound Bite about Commissioned Artworks.
 
The Holly Springs Library will be showing the movie Barbie's Nutcracker Saturday morning and Elf Monday morning. They are also hosting a Family Movie Festival on December 27th and December 28th. Both days start at 10am and will show a collection of five movies on Friday and seven movies on Saturday. Click through for all the titles.
 
Birds of Paradise: Amazing Avian Evolution, the current special exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will be here until March 23rd. The exhibit is a phenomenal interactive presentation of the amazing and unique qualities of the 39 known species of Birds of Paradise.
 
Enjoy the Winter Sunshine at a Park
 
With 70 degrees coming this weekend, its a great opportunity to get out and enjoy a park. Pullen Park will be doing some winter maintenance so click through for the schedule of rides that will be closed before you go.

 

Take a Trail Trek along the American Tobacco Trail Thursday afternoon and explore Evergreens.
 
Learn to identify Trees without their leaves at Lake Crabtree County Park Saturday afternoon.
 
William B. Umstead State Park is hosting a year long game beginning January 2014 to identify birds in the park. Come on out Saturday morning to get an Introduction to the Happy Birds Game.
 
They will be looking for Winter Birds and Waterfowl from the Observation Deck on both Saturday and Sunday at Jordan Lake.
 
Join Harris Lake Park Rangers for a game of "I Spy" as you take a ride to the Longleaf Pine Restoration Area and Womble Family history site on a Winter Hayride Sunday afternoon.
 
Come to Lake Crabtree Sunday afternoon and find out why some animals don't take a Winter Break and migrate or hibernate.

The Raleigh Acorn is lowered to ring in the New Year. While the acorn has become synonymous with
First Night Raleigh, the festival is much more than the countdown to midnight. Your admission pass grants you access to every performance and every venue throughout the day. That's nearly 100 performances in over three dozen locations across downtown Raleigh. What a bargain for just $10! The fun starts at 2pm and runs up to the Chidrens' Celebration and then keeps going until midnight. Get your tickets early at Harris Teeter Stores and Rite Aid Pharmacies.
