It looks like its warming up this weekend and we will have a couple of beautiful days to get outside. After you get those last decorations down, enjoy one of the many fun events going on this weekend.

The Weekend Starts Early


Thursday nights are a blast at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science's Daily Planet Café. Each week features a different themed science-centric program. This week's is Poaching. In addition, the Museum's galleries stay open late and you can pick up discounted tickets to the Birds of Paradise: Amazing Avian Evolution exhibit.

Friday night brings extended hours at the North Carolina Museum of Art for their weekly Art After Hours with live music by David Dyer and the Crooked Smile Band. This week's festivities also feature the 1954 movie Sabrina, and an exploration All about Curves.
On the second Friday night of each month, the streets of Downtown Wake Forest come alive with food, merchants and music for Art After Hours.
Kicking off Friday and running through Sunday, the State Fairgrounds will be hosting the Bass & Salt Water Fishing Expo and it is billed as the fishing event of the year.
This weekend also brings the Carolina Piedmont Dog Agility competitions to the Fairgrounds.
There are two starry activities on Friday. Up, Up, and Away Astronomy at Historic Yates Mill County Park takes place just before dark. Starry Nights over at the American Tobacco Trail is the first of three stargazing programs that take place after dark.
 
Saturday Fun

Have you gone through the exhibit, "The Story of North Carolina" at the North Carolina Museum of History? It is an amazing telling of the states history from early native settlements all the way through World War 2. There are multiple levels of the exhibit that so it has something to interest all ages and best of all, the Museum is always free! This Saturday you can also join a Make it Take it and make a paper peace dove in memory of Martin Luther King Jr.

This weekend brings a Family Fun Saturday  to the North Carolina Museum of Art This weeks program focuses on transportation in art. The evolution of Porsche cars is chronicled in the film, The Porsche Way showing Saturday afternoon.

Marbles Kids Museum & NC Science Olympiad team up for the Family Science Olympiad Saturday afternoon. Bring your family and join in the sport of science! Build bridges, rockets and secret structures and meet NASA Ambassador Tony Rice!

The Family Movie Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Secret of the Wings. Come back Monday morning to seeAladdin.

The State Fairgrounds is also hosting the Raleigh FunFest Winter Tournament at the Hunt Horse Complex and the Young Champions Regional Cheer Competition on Saturday and the North State Toy & Hobby Show both Saturday and Sunday.

The historic Piper Cox House will be open this Saturday in Eno River State Park. Come check out their new interpretive signs and learn about pioneer life in the early 1800"s. Eno River State Park will also host an early morning Birdwatching program.

Its another Citizen Science Saturday at Prairie Ridge Ecostation. Everyone is invited to join in on their weekly citizen science walks and learn how you can contribute to science as a citizen scientist.

Stuff to do on Sunday & Beyond

Every Sunday through March, West Point on the Eno Park hosts Sunday afternoon Winter Hikes. The guided hikes are different every week so click through to get all the details about this week's hike to Fanny's Ford and Holden Mill.

Tony Williamson will be delighting an audience at the North Carolina Museum of History with sounds of the Bluegrass Mandolin Sunday afternoon.

All ages are welcome to join a Prairie Ridge Ecostation naturalist to explore wildlife in the prairie, pond and lowland arboretum on a Walk Through the Seasons Tuesday morning.
