In addition to all the egg hunts going on here in the Triangle, Wilmington will host the North Carolina Azalea Festival all weekend. The five day long festival encompasses a wide variety of both free and ticketed entertainment including a parade, street fair, circus, concerts and pageantry highlighting the city's rich array of artwork, gardens, history and culture.

 
Easter is just around the corner and most of the municipal Egg Hunts take place this weekend. The Museum of Life and Science is hosting their second annual Dinosaur Egg Hunt. There is an additional fee and pre-registration is required.
 
Raleigh will host Egg Hunts on Saturday at Pullen Park, Mordecai Historic Park, Laurel Hills Community Center, Carolina Pines Park, Millbrook Exchange Park, Apollo Heights Park, Roberts Park, Anderson Point Park, Spring Forest Road Park, Raleigh Egg hunts stay healthy again this year with healthier snack options and prizes rather than candy. You can also have Breakfast w/ the Bunny over at Laurel Hills Park with crafts, family entertainment and light refreshments with the Bunny.
 
The Easter Bunny hops into Fuquay Varina Saturday bringing 12,000 candy and toy filled eggs for the Town's annual Easter Egg Hunt at South Park. Fuquay-Varina will also hold a Candy Hop in the historic shopping district Saturday.
 
In Cary, you can enjoy Breakfast with the Bunny before their Annual Egg Hunt over at Bond Park. There will also be ongoing entertainment, festival food, face painting and performances by the Flow Circus.
 
Durham will sponsor two Egg Hunts Saturday. One at Campus Hills Park and the other at West Point on the Eno.
 
Garner's annual Spring Eggstravaganza will be Saturday at Lake Benson Park with an egg hunt, entertainment, games, crafts and food vendors.
 
Halifax Mall in Downtown Raleigh will be the site for the largest Easter egg hunt in the Triangle with seven hunt times and 60,000 eggs! Egg hunts will be accompanied by inflatable games, prizes, and free balloons.
 
Apex will host their Egg Hunt Saturday at the Town Hall Campus.
 
Holly Springs combines their Egg Hunt with a Community Wide Yard Sale over at Sugg Farm Park on Saturday. There will also be games, inflatables and music.
 
My favorite Egg Hunt is over at the JC Raulston Arboretum. Starting Saturday and running through April 21st, you can take in all the incredible spring flowers while your kids search for brightly painted wooden eggs hidden throughout the Arboretum gardens. Write down the letters on each egg then unscramble the letters to win a prize.

The NC Science Festival continues this weekend! The red planet visits our skies this month. Come to Historic Yates Mill County Park Friday to learn about Mars. Play games, make a craft and take a look after dark.

 

The Holly Springs Community Band will be playing a concert Friday night at the Holly Springs Cultural Center featuring a wide variety of rock music renditions, marches, movie theme songs, semi-classical, and classical.
 
Learn fun dances for the whole family: Squares, Circles, Appalachian, and more, with caller Connie Carringer and a live, old-time, string band music during Friday night's Family Dance at Halle Cultural Arts Center.
 
Over a decade old, the 2nd Friday ArtWalk in Downtown Chapel Hill and Carrboro invites you to enjoy the opportunity to see a large variety of artwork during a single evening while socializing with fellow art lovers.
 
Spring for the Arts Friday night kicks off the monthly "Art After Dark: Art Walks in Fuquay Varina. The night will include an artist and crafter's market, kids' creative activities, live local music, an " En-Plein Air Paint Off, an all new Kid's En Plein Air Paint off, a glow in the dark dance party, student performances, museum tours, Rickshaw Rides, Open Mic and artist receptions
 
Art After Hours will bring the streets of downtown Wake Forest come alive with food, merchants and music!
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art invites you to enjoy music by the Onyx Club Boys for Friday's Art in the Evening along with Sound Bites about images of Mary and the 2012 movie, Blancanieves.
 
You're invited to bring up to three objects to the North Carolina Museum of History for assessment and advice on care from our conservators during Friday's Conservation Assistance Day.
 
Friday evening at Bass Lake Park will feature a fun evening of Family Bingo. The monthly event has become very popular so get there early to secure a seat for the fun.
 
The State Fairgrounds kicks off most of their events Friday night and continues them through the weekend. The Southern Ideal Home Show - Spring Edition returns, as well as, a Geranium Sale. The Boat Show & Sale is for those of you looking for some watery down time. And the Raleigh Invitational Horse Show is an American Saddle Bred and Morgan horse show.
 
Festivals & Fun
 
The Longleaf Festival returns to Harris Lake County Park on Saturday! Enjoy activities, games, crafts and learn about the importance of the 60-acre Longleaf Pine stand.

 

Get outside, get active and get excited about simple machines at Yates Mill! Join them Saturday for a hands-on outdoor Simple Machines Field Day. Stay Saturday afternoon for the Yates Mill Associates' Chicken Pickin' and help raise funds to help repair and maintain the Mill.
 
Also a part of the NC Science Festival, the UNC Science Expo will include demonstrations, hands-on activities, lab tours, exhibits, and science talks from professors and students at UNC in a family friendly format.
 
The Annual Hillsborough Arts & Crafts Show will take place Saturday on the lawn of the historic Hillsborough Visitors Center. Along with a wide variety of original art and quality handcrafted items, the show will feature live music and festival food.
 
The second Carrboro Open Streets or Ciclovias event is Saturday. Weaver Street will be closed to encourage walking, biking, and other forms of physical activity to the event which boasts a rock climbing wall, a kids' bike loop, beverages from the bike blender, games, booths, prizes and much more.
 
Enjoy the work of more than 200 artists, musical performances, food and kids activities at this weekend's Durham Art Walk both Saturday and Sunday.
 
Morrisville's Green Day Saturday promotes the natural environment, conservation and green initiatives. The event includes document shredding, electronics recycling, community planting and environmental booths.
A Civil War era troop encampment on the lawn and character interpretations will recall the April 1865 occupation of the State Capitol by troops of Union General William T. Sherman during this Saturday's Raleigh Occupied at the NC State Capital Grounds.
 
Come on out Saturday to cheer on UNC for the Pregame Fan Fest & Spring Football Game. Pregame fan activities will include live music from GrooveTown, food vendors, merchandise tents and interactive games. An autograph session with UNC players will also be held and the game starts at 3pm. Best of all, admission is free.
 
Come to a Party for the Planet both Saturday and Sunday as the North Carolina Zoo celebrates an Earth Day Weekend. Dance to African drums and explore new ways to help take care of the earth.

Culture, Music & Movies
 
Celebrate the opening of Estampas de la raza on Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Art. with fun for the whole family! Explore traditional Mexican folk arts with art-making workshops. Enjoy musical performances; add swirls of color to a collaborative painted mural; look for animals, plants, and art in bilingual family tours in the Museum Park; and play a scavenger hunt game in the galleries.

 

Durham's tobacco heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents during Saturday morning's Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour.
 
Bookmarked is a one-day celebration of reading, music and fun for the whole family and will feature locally known "celebrity-hero" readers, musicians, games ad arts activities geared to encourage healthy social and emotional development and encourage a love of reading. The event will take place in the Cary Performance Green Saturday.
 
Curious George will be the featured movie at Holly Springs Cultural Center Saturday morning. Come back Monday morning for the movie Hop.
 
Fiesta Flamenca with Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will highlight dancers, a singer, and a guitarist Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
Page-Walker Arts & History Center will host the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival Sunday afternoon. The program will include poetry readings by the finalists of the Nazim Hikmet poetry competition which received submissions from 365 poets. Click through for the schedule.
 
Lebanese musicians Naji Hilal and Christopher Saleh will combine their musical talents for Sunday's Music for Cedars in the Pines concert at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
Carrboro Town Commons will be the site for the Community Concert for Spring by the Village Band Sunday afternoon.
 
As a continuation of the NC Science Festival, there will be a Celebration of Undergraduate Research on the UNC Campus Monday afternoon.
 
There will be a Local Author Reading Wednesday evening at the Burwell School Historic Site.
 
April is Raleigh History Month. Visit six of the 12 Raleigh Heritage Trail sites (including Oak View) to get your "Passport to History" stamped and win a prize. While you're at Historic Oak View County Park, check out their special exhibit, In Search of a New Deal: Images of North Carolina, 1935-1941.
 
More Fun at the Parks
 
Walnut Creek Wetland Center invites you to their Worm Harvesting Party Saturday. Bring your bin and a clean container with a tight-fitting lid to hold worm castings. They'll supply snacks and a workspace, plus a demonstration of three harvesting techniques.

 

An Ounce of Prevention... Saturday morning and ...Is Worth a Pound of Cure Saturday afternoon are both programs to bring some of the Lake Crabtree County Park's invasive species under control.
 
Kids that want to learn how to fish should check out a C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. The Saturday morning program will teach the basic fishing skills and test out the new knowledge.
 
Come on over to Falls Lake State Recreation Area Friday through Sunday afternoon to learn be in the Water Safety Olympics.
 
Crowder District Park invites you to their Earth Day Extravaganza Sunday afternoon where you will learn fun facts and tips on recycling and how you can reduce waste! Build a trash pizza, make paper and take the Earth Day pledge! Make an eco-craft to take home.
