The Spring Festivals and Concerts kick up this weekend with something for everyone. Get out there and have a great weekend!
The municipal farmers markets are just about all open now! Lunchtime Wednesday brings the Pig Pickin' Kick Off Event at the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market. Holly Springs is one of the latest to open next weekend. Start your Saturday morning off with some fresh produce and flowers. For more information on the area's farmers markets, just go to the Event search on www.ParkGeek.com and type in Farmers Market under the topic. We can show you where and when the farmers markets are around the Triangle.
Shape Up Downtown continues Monday through Wednesday evenings wit free fitness classes outside on the City Plaza Astroturf.
Learn about Downtown Raleigh's amazing Red Tail Hawks and get a close-up view through spotting scopes every Thursday at lunchtime.
Free Birds will be the featured flick for Thursday night's Pizza and a Movie at the Halle Cultural Arts Center.
Spring Daze & More Festivals
It is now spring craft festival season! Bond Park will host Cary's Annual Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday. Featuring over 150 local artists, entertainment on four stages, a Children's Village, concessionaires with your favorite festival foods and Cary's Earth Day Celebration it promises to be a fun family event.
Bring your family to a free, daylong Songbird Celebration at Blue Jay Point County Park in recognition of International Migratory Bird Day. Enjoy bird-related activities throughout the park, including games and crafts, preschool story times, bird hikes for adults and kids, learning stations and more.
Brewgaloo in Raleigh's City Plaza Saturday features craft breweries from North Carolina and local food trucks. Entertainment will be provided by local bands.
HerbFest 2014 continues this weekend in Wake Forest. Join them for free entertainment, animal petting, live bands, and the largest selection of herbs and local grown, adapted perennials.
Historic Oak View County Park invites you to their Antique Automobile Show Saturday. Come see antique cars displayed on the grounds and watch them reassemble their 1917 Take Apart Model T in less than 5 minutes.
Come visit Mordecai Historic Park Saturday to get your garden started this year. Heirloom varieties of produce, herbs, and flowers will be sold at their Annual Plant Sale.
Marsh Creek is proud to host a Community Day Saturday to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Raleigh's only public skate park. There will be Skateboard Demos & Instruction, a Street Hockey Clinic, Food Trucks, Raffles, Skateboard Design Contest and Games for Youth & Adults.
Celebrate spring at Carrboro's Local Roots Craft Festival Saturday. Twenty-five vendors will be selling a variety of hand-crafted items including ceramics, jewelry, soaps, clothes, accessories, toys, and housewares and there will also be pottery demonstrations, a hands-on kid's art table, and food vendors.
Durham Central Park will host an Earth Day Festival Saturday with "green" activities and demos; info about many green practices and products at the Sustainability Expo and Earth Art Market; and great music & food.
Fun at the Parks
The fun programs at the parks starts Thursday. Head on over to the American Tobacco Trail Thursday afternoon to learn about Rascal-y Raccoons. Young adults 16-20 years old are invited to join a ranger at Umstead State Park Thursday afternoon to take Canoeing Skills I. Thursday evening, Falls Lake will be Calling All Frogs
Harris Lake County Park will also be listening for frogs after dark Friday on a Frog Hike while its Moth Night at Eno River State Park and you can be a Night-time Explorer at Crowder District Park.
Durant Nature Park is hosting their annual Family Campout from Friday to Saturday. Enjoy a campout, a naturalist led night hike, s'mores for the kids, breakfast provided for you, and time for fishing and boating in the morning.
Its a Nature Play Day Friday at Annie Wilkerson Nature Preserve Park where they will encourage imaginative play in a natural setting.
Enjoy a date night Friday after you drop your kids off at Walnut Creek Wetland Center for a Kid's Nature Night.
Come back to Harris Lake County Park Saturday morning to take a Migration Walk with a NC Museum of Natural Sciences Junior Curator or head over to Eno River State Park for some Birdwatching.
Saturday is Amphibian Awareness Day at the North Carolina Zoo. Enjoy educational activities, meet the keepers and learn about amphibian conservation efforts.
Art, Music & Culture
Join the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Saturday for the Grand Opening of their new exhibit, Rainforest Adventure. Hear from Museum scientists about their rainforest-related research; meet live animals and insects that inhabit the rainforest and enjoy hands-on educational activities for the whole family.
The NC Museum of Art will kick off the weekend with a discussion of art that Displays Struggle, Art in the Evening featuring the sounds of the Peter Lamb and the Wolves and the 1946 movie The Stranger directed by and starring Orson Wells.
The Art of Cool Fest kicks off Friday at Durham's Central Park with a line up of five free concerts and food trucks.
Jeanne Jolly, will play a Last Friday Concert at the Historic Old Courthouse, downtown Hillsborough Friday night as part of the monthly Last Friday Art Walk.
LEGO-palooza returns to the Morehead Planetarium both Saturday and Sunday. Come see the amazing displays of unique LEGO scenes, from settlements in outer space to hometowns throughout America (including forts, amusement parks, city landmarks and more).
Join special guests from NC Theatre for a sneak peek of Disney's under the sea spectacular Little Mermaid this Saturday at Marbles Kids Museum.
The North Carolina Museum of Art is hosting the ArtScene 2014 Spring Teen Event Saturday. Learn, play, socialize, and participate in a variety of scenes planned by teens for teens. They will also host a Family Fun Saturday called Print Me.
Horton Hears a Who will be this Saturday's Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Their Monday Morning Movie will be Disney's Frozen.
