Welcome to a fabulous fall festival weekend! There are so many awesome festivals throughout the parks and museums this weekend to pick from with a great variety of music, culture and activities.
 

Activate Raleigh is back for the 9/11 Day of Service in Raleigh. The local businesses, groups, and individuals will unite to honor those lost on 9/11 with volunteerism and acts of kindness around Raleigh and the Triangle. Join them Thursday evening at the Red Hat Amphitheater for the Evening Commemoration with live music, hands-on service projects, an on-site food drive and guest speakers.
 
The YMCA at American Tobacco will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for the 9/11 One World Day of Service to help built new homes in Durham.
 
Festivals throughout the Triangle
 
Come to downtown Raleigh to experience four days of the art, design + creativity festival, SPARKcon. Activities include 700 street painters, a fashion show, film screenings, creative projects for kids, as well as music, theater, dance and athletic performances. Click through for a list of the 13 SPARKs or festivals within the festival.

 

The State Fairgrounds will host the annual Holy Trinity Greek Festival. Come enjoy authentic Greek food, homemade Greek pastries, marketplace, live Greek music, Greek dance groups & more.
 
The Annual NC State Championship Charity Horse Show comes to the Hunt Horse Complex through Saturday. The fundraiser boasts some of the finest show horses, free pony rides and face painting for kids and as a special treat, the Anheuser Bush Clydsdales will be performing Friday and Saturday nights.
 
Celebrate NCpedia.org-the State Library's stop for Tar Heel facts, history, and culture-with children's activities, hands-on crafts, and a panel discussion featuring historians William Price Jr. and Michael Hill on Saturday.
 
Step back in time for Colonial Kids Day on Saturday in Hillsborough. There will be a full day of free activities like candle-making, butter-churning, traditional dancing, old-fashioned lawn games and a Scavenger Hunt!
 
The Harvest and Hornworm Festival at Duke Homestead Historic Site will provide demonstrations of historic tobacco harvesting, stringing, and curing in the morning and a tobacco auction in the afternoon. There will also be hornworm races, MoonPie eating contest, musical entertainment, craft vendors and refreshments.
 
Enjoy pony rides, inflatables, games, live entertainment and much more at the Knightdale Community Day on Saturday.
 
The Town of Apex and Western Wake Tennis Association invite kids to Apex Nature Park Saturday morning for a USTA Free Tennis Play Event.
 
Fun Fall Events at the Parks
 
There are family programs Saturday morning at two local Wake County Parks. Harris Lake County Park will host a Family Pond Exploration and Blue Jay Point County Park is Going to Seed.

 

Saturday is a Volunteer Day over at Crowder Park. Join them for this monthly event and help keep the park beautiful.
 
Introduce kids 6-12 to fishing through C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) either Saturday or Sunday morning at Jordan Lake.
 
Head over to Eno River State Park early Saturday for a morning hike out to the Pump Station, Durham's first water pumping station. Sunday's morning hike will explore Cole Mill & Bobbit Hole. Sunday afternoon they will be looking for Dragons & Damsels.
 
Enjoy a relaxing wagon ride back to Harris Lake's Longleaf Pine Management Area Sunday afternoon to learn about their special history to the area and the ecology of the longleaf forest ecosystem.
 
Prairie Ridge Ecostation welcomes young children to their Nature Stories on Thursday mornings and the whole family for Citizen Science Saturdays.
 
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be giving Saturdays at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday.
 
Culture in the Triangle
 
The Teen National Tour comes to the Halle Cultural Center Friday night. It is a peer-to-peer anti-bullying campaign and concert tour to educate/entertain youth about bullying and prevention. Come for just the concert or get a VIP pass to get an autograph card, personal time with the artist, watch the sound check, and have your photo taken with the artist before the show.

 

Join the Mayor and the Holly Springs Mayor's Youth Advisory Board Friday night for an Anti-Bullying Event. There will be programs, speakers, videos, music, kids coloring table and more for the whole family.
 
Rio 2 will be playing on the big outdoor screen Friday night in Fuquay-Varina. Also in Fuquay-Varina Friday night, Fall for the Arts is a special edition of the monthly Art After Dark. Organized as a potluck of creative events and activities, with local galleries, artists, businesses, and organizations.
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art kicks off the weekend Friday with music by The Beast for Art in the Evening and an art exploration of Floating. Also Friday night, the NCMA partners with Citizen Pop and Wine Authorities for an end-of-summer Pop and Fizzies event that pairs sparkling wine and gourmet popsicles. Bring the kids back Saturday for a Family Fun Saturday and make a Museum Park Journal.
 
Cary Town Band presents Raining Cats and Dogs Friday night at Bond Park. Come join them as they musically celebrate household pets and their cousins in the wild.
 
Also in Cary Friday night, the Downtown Performers Series brings Tea Cup Gin to the stage right in Downtown.
 
On the second Friday night of each month the streets of Downtown Wake Forest come alive with food, merchants and music for Art After Hours.
Bass Lake Park kicks off the weekend Friday with an evening of friendly competition with some Family Bingo.
 
The Starring North Carolina! Film Series at the North Carolina Museum of History features the film Bull Durham Friday night. Saturday you can learn all about the Boll Weevil and make one to take home. Sunday afternoon there will be Bluegrass in the Garden with Grits and Soul, featuring Anna Kline and John Looney.
 
Frozen will be Saturday's family movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. Come back Monday morning for Happy Feet.
 
Pickin' In The Pines Bluegrass Series continues Wednesday evening at Regency Park with the Grass Cats.
 
A Bit More Fun

Twilight $2 Thursdays is every week at Marbles Kids Museum. Come on out to enjoy the extended hours and discounted admission.

YogaFest Raleigh continues this Wedensday with free yoga classes on the City Plaza Astroturf.
 
Marsh Creek Park is trying to establish some Futsal teams with Free Futsal Open Play for adults on Wednesday and Friday nights. Come check out the game that is a 5-on-5 version of soccer and is played on a smaller surface with a heavier ball.
