This weekend is jam packed with stuff to do! Instead of wondering what to do this weekend, it will be a question of which things to do and how much can you squeeze in.

Fun on Thursday and Friday

Its time for Science Trivia Thursday night at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Along with extended hours, you can also enjoy a class on Getting Started in Astronomy.

 
Come back to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Friday night for all the fun that goes with First Friday! There will be a Teen Science Cafe all about palm oil, discounted admission to the World's Largest Dinosaurs , an opening reception for the show "Shells" and the movie "Curse of the Swamp Creature."
 
The North Carolina Museum of History will also extend its hours for First Friday so you can explore their free exhibit "Story of North Carolina" as well as their special exhibit "Starring North Carolina." As a special treat, the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild will be organizing tastings of beer from Bear Creek Brews (based in Siler City): the state's smallest nano-brewery
 
Downtown Raleigh comes alive for First Friday with the Downtown Gallery Walk and extended hours at the Raleigh City Museum and Marbles Kids Museum. The Morning Times Market even joins in the festivities this month with local artisans, live music, entertainment, and local craft beer.
 
Art in the Evening brings live music by David Dryer Trio, Sound Bites focused Sensing Time and the 1932 classic Trouble in Paradise to the North Carolina Museum of Art.
 
Way outside the lights of the city, Bass Lake Park invites you to bring the kids to this month's Family Fun Night. The first hour you can make arts & crafts, meet a live animal or do some fishing. Close out the evening with an interactive concert with Trish Miller or a magic show with Dan the Magic Man.
 
Starting Friday and continuing Saturday, the Durham Bulls invite you to stop by the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for FanFest.
 
Also Friday afternoon, explore the gardens at JC Raulston Arboretum while you search for five brain tickling questions.
 

Fun Outdoors

The St Patrick's Day Parade and Wearin' 'O the Green Festival is next weekend, but this Saturday kicks off the Irish celebrations with the St. Paddy's Run Green 8k and World Record Kilt Run & After Party in Moore Square.
 
Eno River State Park is hosting several programs Saturday. Come on out to the park for Nature Story Time, a morning hike out to the Cole Mill & Bobbitt Hole and Water Bugs, about baby dragonflies.
 
Raven Rock State Park invites you to join them every Thursday morning for a Hike for Your Health and this Saturday afternoon you can learn about Jumpers & Hoppers.
Teens are invited to Walnut Creek Wetland Center Saturday to Discover Wetlands.
 
Start out Saturday morning with some Birding at Lake Crabtree County Park. Enjoy an easy walk with their resident bird enthusiast, Vernon.
 
Tours of the fully renovated mill are back for the spring at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park. Take a Half Hour Tour Saturday or an in depth Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sunday. Come to the park after dark Saturday for a Starlit View Astronomy Program.
 
Calling all home schoolers and Track 1 students. Historic Yates Mill County Park will be running another awesome Home School Day on Simple Machines & Waterwheels on Monday.
 
The Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve Park will also be having fun after dark during Saturday's Twilight Walk.
 
West Point on the Eno Park is looking for hikers to explore the Source of the Eno Sunday afternoon.
 

More at the Museums

Historic Oak View County Park is hosting the traveling exhibit, Lost North Carolina that remembers architecture forever lost through demolition, natural disaster, social and economic change, or simple neglect. The exhibit will be on display through May.
 
Teens are invited to Sports Legends: A Panel and Workshop for Youth Saturday afternoon to hear about sports careers past and present from some of our state's sports legends, then take part in a gallery hunt through the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Come back Sunday for a Music of the Carolinas concert featuring the acoustic folk group, Barleycorn & Rye.
 
The monthly Science Saturday is back this weekend to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Come explore the Academic Road Less Traveled as they discuss the unique aspects of a career as a museum-based scientist.
 
Come out and enjoy free demonstrations of historic Hearth Cooking and Weaving on Saturday at Mordecai Historic Park.
 
Artist James Prosek, sometimes described as a contemporary Audubon, will give a lecture on his work Saturday afternoon at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The Museum also invites you to take a Meet Your Museum Tour or a Weekend Family Friendly Tour this weekend.
 
Marbles will host a Family Fun Night Wednesday night. The free, after-hours program is offered exclusively for kids with special needs and their families to play in the museum in a calmer, quieter environment.
 

Fun at the Fairgrounds

The Raleigh Antiques Extravaganza with over 125 exhibitors, from Florida to New England, featuring quality antiques and old collectibles will be at the State Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday.
 
This weekend's Bead Mercantile Show will feature everything from hand-made artisan glass beads to direct imports such as beads (seed, pewter, semi-precious gemstones), findings, trheads/cord and everything else you need to make beaded jewelry.
 
There will be a Indoor Horse Show over at the Hunt Horse Complex Friday through Sunday.
