It looks like another fabulous weekend! With over 100 events listed on ParkGeek.com this week, we are going to hit the highlights in this week's newsletter. Please go to the ParkGeek.com Event Search for the complete listing.

First Friday

The PNC Downtown Raleigh Movie Series will feature food trucks, your favorite 80s tunes from DJ Alex Choi and the movie The Goonies at Raleigh's City Plaza Friday night.
 
First Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences brings the 1976 movie "At the Earth's Core" to the big screen along with live music by Phil Walters and Ralph Shaw, their special exhibit, Dig It! The Secrets of Soil, and an opening reception for artist Trena McNabb.
 
Visit The Story of North Carolina and sample beer from Gizmo Brew Works during First Friday at the North Carolina Museum of History.
 
The North Carolina Museum of Art will be exploring the Roles of an Artist, jamming to the tunes of the David Dryer Trio and showing the outdoor movie Dazed and Confused .
 
City Market will host the usual First Friday festivities with local artisans, live music, entertainment, and local craft beer. You are also invited to explore the First Friday Gallery Walk throughout the galleries and restaurants in Raleigh and extended hours at the Raleigh City Museum and Marbles Kids Museum.
 
The Live and Local Music & Arts Series in Downtown Chapel Hill will Bring the Twang with the folk, blues, and country duo, The Holland Brothers.
 
Also in Downtown Chapel Hill, Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will feature live music by Mel Meltion and the food trucks Bam Pow Chow and Baguettaboutit.
 
The 12-member group of brass players and a percussionist, Old North State Brass will be delighting an audience with their vast repertoire Friday night at Bond Park.
 
Crowder by Night Friday will feature a Firefly Frenzy. Come to the park after dark for an evening of summer fun.
 
Head on over to Bass Lake Park Friday night for their monthly Family Fun Night. Start with some fishing, arts & crafts and live animal demos and end with a special kids show.

Festivals, Fairs & Special Events

Celebrate Fuquay-Varina, the annual celebration of the arts is back this weekend to Downtown Fuquay-Varina. The Fuquay-Varina Arts Council is sponsoring their Annual Benefit Auction with a preview Friday and Silent & Live Auction Saturday. Saturday features a Festival with live entertainment from Lauren Light, Magician Michael Creech, Eric "E" Train Manning and the King BMX Bike Show; two kids zones with inflatables and rides, arts and crafts, classic cars and tours of the Fuquay Museums Complex.
 
Piedmont Wildlife Center's BioBlitz Festival comes to Leigh Farm Park Friday and Saturday with a citizen science trek, wildlife ambassadors, earth-friendly crafts and a large-scale nature scavenger hunt.
 
Saturday celebrates the Dog Days of June at Bond Park. There will be a Charity Raffle, the Skyhoundz Canine Frisbee Disc Competition, a Dog Wash, Rabies Vaccines and Microchipping Clinics.
 
Saturday is the Annual Beaver Queen Pageant at Duke Park. Come enjoy the annual neighborhood "pageant" featuring live music and fun.
 
Saturday is Family Outdoor Conservation Day at Lake Wheeler Park. Wake County Ducks Unlimited and the City of Raleigh will host the event which features outdoor education activities, kids fishing derby (ages 6-12), games and an archery range.
 
Historic Oak View Park invites you to their Barnyard Birthday Bash Saturday to celebrate their Goats' 10th birthdays! Enjoy games, activities and, of course, cake!
 
Downtown Apex will come alive with the Latino Arts Festival Saturday. There will be crafts, art workshops, piñatas, jewelry making, woodworking, a Latino Culinary Fest & Bazaar, dance performances and live music.
 
Lake Crabtree County Park will host the Triangle Cup Regatta both Saturday and Sunday. Come watch the radio controlled model sailboats race on the lake.
 
Saturday is Crawfish Day at the State Farmers Market. Get there early because they will sell out!
 
Saturday is the Fresh, New Grocery & Kitchen Grand Opening at Marbles Kids Museum. Be one of the first to play in the updated exhibit, and prep tasty treats.
 
The North Carolina Zoo invites you to celebrate World Oceans Day with them on Saturday.
 
The Holly Springs Farmers Market will gear up for their annual Taste of Holly Springs Saturday morning. Come enjoy sample some of the best dishes from local Holly Springs restaurants.
 
Wellspring Church is sponsoring a Free Block Party at Joyner Park Saturday. This is a family friendly event, open to everyone featuring a bounce house, free food and games.
 
Join the Butterfly House staff at the Museum of Life and Science as they celebrate the annual Butterfly Awareness Day on Saturday.
 
Kids Together Park invites you to their Birthday Party Sunday. Craft noisemakers, join the parade, here the story of the park and help make Roly Poly fruit slushies.

Music, Movies & History

Tours are back at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park! Join them Saturday for a Half Hour Tour of the main power drive and milling machinery of the fully restored mill. Sunday brings Mill Heritage & Local History Tours.
 
Mordecai Historic Park will host an old-time Barn Dance in their smokehouse and park grounds Saturday afternoon! Bryan Craddock and the Hemlock Bluff Cloggers will be teaching and demonstrating traditional clogging steps and old-time figures. Come out and dance or just watch the demonstrations.
 
Kick off the Summer Reading Program Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Community Library with the Every Hero has a Story Summer Reading Celebration. There will be crafts, a family story time and the opportunity for all ages to sign up for the Summer Reading Program that runs through July 31st. They will also be showing the movie How to Train Your Dragon.
 
Adults are invited to take a History Hike Saturday morning along the American Tobacco Trail.
 
Counting Carbon in Trees from Space will be the topic explored at Saturday's Science Saturday program at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
Bring the kids to the North Carolina Museum of Art after dark Saturday to enjoy the movie Frozen, the sing-along version!
 
Pullen Park will host this week's Sunday in the Park Concert Series featuring young acoustic Singer/Songwriter, Brooke Hatala.
 
Umstead State Park will be showing the movie Beavers Sunday morning and the movie Amphibians Sunday afternoon.
 
Downtown Sounds brings a Free concert to the back lawn of the Garner Performing Arts Center Sunday evening.
 
Charlotte's Web is the Monday Morning Movie this week at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
 

National Trails Day

Saturday is National Trails Day. Celebrate here in the Triangle with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, guided hikes & programs and celebrations.
 
There will be volunteer workdays at many of the county and state parks on Saturday. Most do request that you register so they have a good idea of how many people will be helping. Click through for all the details.
 
Celebrate National Trails Day with a self-paced walking challenge, the Triangle Volksmarch. Pick up your passport & map at event locations, visit stamp stations along the Capital Greenway anytime between 9am & 5pm, and earn a patch. There will also be events and programs at Umstead Park, Prairie Ridge EcoStation, and the NC Museum of Art.
 
Parks with Trail Day Workdays include Falls Lake, Eno River and Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve.
 
Wake Forest will celebrate National Trails Day Saturday at E. Carroll Joyner Park with an Environmental Education Expo.
 
Little River Regional Park will host both a work day and a hike Saturday.
 
Explore the new Speight Branch Greenway Saturday with Members of the Greenway Committee and Cary Teen Council which includes a 210-foot section of boardwalk encircling Macedonia Lake.
 
Lake Crabtree invites you to go Birding with Vernon early Saturday.
 
Eno River State Park will host Frogs and Friends, Damsels & Dragons on Saturday. They will be exploring Mussel Shores and Water Bugs and hosting a Sniff and Greet at Bobbitt Hole for you and your dog at Eno on Sunday.
 
Take a morning Tree and Plant ID Hike at Raven Rock State Park Saturday.
