Welcome back to the heat of the summer. There are lots of great summer events this weekend.

Summer Fun at the Parks

Even if you are already back in school, a trip to a local park can be an awesome way to unwind and rejuvenate yourself.

Kids who are still out of school are invited to a Home School Day all about the Milk Makers Friday afternoon at Historic Yates Mill County Park. Both Saturday and Sunday they will be offering Corn Milling Demonstrations. Saturday afternoon, their historic trade program will explore Ice Suppliers and Tradesmen. The park will also host a Seniors Stay Fit Nature Walk Monday morning.

Come to Lake Crabtree County Park Friday evening to enjoy a Sunset Canoe Trip.

Are you up for an early, brisk 7.5 mile hike along the Eno? Join rangers at Eno River State Park Saturday morning for a Mega-Morning Hike on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Kids are invited to Nature Story Time at the Ford Sunday afternoon and everybody can learn about how Geology Rocks.

They will be exploring how to discover clues through Animal Tracks and Signs at Raven Rock State Park Saturday morning.

Are you an Amphibian? Bring your kids to Umstead State Park Saturday or Sunday so they can can learn about amphibians and make their own mask. Come to the park Wednesday to learn how to use a compass, identify features on a map, pace count, concepts of topography, safety, and an overview on the sport of Orienteering

Saturday's Family Wildlife Series at Blue Jay Point County Park will allow the whole family to do some dip netting as you Ponder the Ponds.

After dark, Morehead Planetarium educators invite you to join them at Jordan Lake for an Astronomy Viewing Session Saturday night.

Also at night, Celebrate National Moth Week with the Museum at Prairie Ridge Saturday while you look for Moths at Night.

They will be exploring local Turtle Power Sunday afternoon at Harris Lake County Park.

Hoo's Eating Hoo? Learn about predator and prey relationships Sunday around dusk at Lake Crabtree County Park.

Tunes & Culture in the Triangle

On alternating Thursdays from the Oak City 7 concerts, the Downtown Raleigh Bluegrass Concert Series brings in local Bluegrass along with food trucks and local beer. This week's concert features Sideline with special guests Kasey Tyndall and The Holland Brothers.

The Sweet Carolina Music Series in Downtown Chapel Hill brings Band of Oz to the stage Thursday evening.

Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences brings a Science Cafe Lecture on the the New Horizons spacecraft. This week is also Game Night.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn Friday will feature BFG as well as the food trucks Porchetta and Soom Soom.

The Hey Brothers will be playing the tunes Friday night at Art in the Evening. The Sound Bites will explore Creating Space at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Jarekus Singleton will be the featured band at Friday night's Warehouse Blues Concert at Durham Central Park.

Its Third Friday already in Downtown Durham. Enjoy a Gallery crawl, live music and special events.

Clay Street After Work returns this Friday in Downtown Mebane with the Franklin Street Band.

This week's Sunday in the Park Concert will bring Raleigh Native Nick Driver to the stage at Fletcher Park.

Movies at the Parks and Museums

Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle will be the featured family flick along with pizza Thursday night at the Halle Cultural Arts Center.

Throwback Thursday brings the 2000 film Almost Famous to the big screen at Regency Park after dark Thursday.

The Friday night Outdoor Film Series at the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature the 1964 classic film, To Kill a Mockingbird starring Gregory Peck. Come back after sunset Saturday for the 2014 film, Selma.

Saturday morning's featured movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center is Despicable Me 2. Bring the kids back Monday morning for the featured film Aladdin.

More Fun

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will be hosting a NCHJA " C" Indoors Horse Show which offers free admission.

The Raleigh Antiques Extravaganza also takes place at the fairgrounds this weekend, but has an admission fee.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center hosts Super Fun Saturdays on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays or every month. Join them to do arts & crafts activities, play games and sample their upcoming art camps.

Bring your kids to Downtown Raleigh Sunday for the Third Sunday Children's Carnival. There will be fun and games in front of Raleigh Times Bar.

Spend an afternoon in Fuquay Varina during their Ice Cream Social and Celebration Sunday afternoon at Mineral Springs Park.
