Wonderful Summer weather leads itself to having fun with friends and family. With such an amazing variety of events going on this weekend, from movies and concerts to hikes and history programs, I hope you can find something to do to make this weekend part of your summer to remember.
The Farmers Markets are in full swing now. Just about every town in the Triangle has its own Farmer's Market Saturday morning and several have weekday times, too. Go to the event search at Parkgeek.com and plug in Farmer's Market and we will give you all the details so you can bring home some local honey or some just picked tomatoes. Head on over to the State Farmers Market in Raleigh on Thursday at lunchtime for Peach Day.
The State Fair is still several months away, but there is plenty to do at the Fairgrounds. This weekend you can find some great deals at the Kids Exchange Consignment Sale, cheer on the competitors in the National Barrel Horse Association Show, or ogle over the gems, jewelry, crystals, minerals and beads at the Gem & Jewelry Show.
There are only eight more slots available before the divottle survey will be closed. A winner for the $100 drawing will be announced for those who participated in the survey.
LEGOs and More Fun at the Parks
The LEGO Summer Mobile Tour comes to Moore Square in Downtown Raleigh all weekend. The LEGO Games 2010 Tour invites families to play games like they have never seen before! Participate in life-sized adapted versions of your favorite LEGO's 10 new games. You can even guess the number of bricks in the over 6-foot tall LEGO Minotaur model for a chance to win a trip to LEGOLAND California!
The NC State Parks have a variety of fun programs this weekend. There is nothing better to end a busy Saturday that enjoying a spectacular Sunset Hike on Occoneechee Mountain.
After dark, come on over to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area to peer through telescopes at the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Saturn during an Astronomy Viewing Session.
Sunday afternoon, bring your kids out for Webs and Their Weavers. This kid friendly program at Eno River State Park will explore the eight legged arachnids with both models and live specimens.
 
Bring the whole family out to Durant Nature Park Thursday evening to enjoy a Family Walk in the Park after the heat of the day has passed.
Blue Jay Point County Park also invites the whole family for a Family Forest Hike. Join staff for a leisurely hike along their trails while learning how to identify plants, insects, birds and any other critters that happen along the path
The Raleigh Astronomy Club will be at Harris Lake County Park after dark to Get Starry Eyed. Telescopic views of the planets, star clusters and the moon are sure to be a breathtaking sight!
The Triangle Brass Band and More Concerts
The Triangle Brass Band will be back at the Sertoma Amphitheater with a repitoire of marches of all kinds, from all over the world, including ones by John Philip Sousa, Prokofiev, Henry Fillmore and many more.
Marbles Kids Museum offers you a sneak preview of NC Theatre's production of one of the world's best-loved musicals, Annie. The Garden Gourmet will also be cooking up a simple and delicious treat using summer"s freshest ingredients. Tuesday evening brings back Target $2 Tuesday Night. Head downtown to the museum for $2 admission and extended hours.
The Filmore Valley Boys will finish off the weekend as part of the Sunday in the Park Concert Series at Fred Fletcher Park. Come on out to enjoy a selection of contemporary and traditional folk & bluegrass.
Break up the week with Summerdipity Events Wednesday night at the Carrboro Century Center. Mickey Mills a Steel drum soloist of Caribbean music is returning to the Century Center to engage you with island rhythms and a tropical spirit.
Also on Wednesday, the North Carolina Museum of Art will delight audiences with a ride across the continents with an energetic mix of folktales, original stories, and music during Stories from around the World with Ron Jones. As always, to accompany a Children's Performance, there will be a fun Hands-on Craft Workshop.
Movies at the Parks and Museums
This is another great weekend for fun outdoor flicks! Friday night, bring your kids to the North Carolina Museum of Art for Where the Wild Things Are under the stars. Saturday night sizzles at the NC Museum of Art with Star Trek. Come enjoy the 2009 reboot of the indestructible sci-fi franchise with enterprising wit and a hot young cast.
Holly Springs Cultural Center will be showing Happy Feet.
Movies in the Park return Friday night at the Durham Central Park. Tom Whiteside, Durham Cinematheque creator will be showing movies from his extensive vintage movie collection.
Bring History Alive
Celebrate the Museum of Life and Science Dinosaur Trail's first anniversary with a weekend full of fossils and fun. Meet local collectors from the North Carolina Fossil Club, talk with paleontology experts, find your own fossils or make fossil casts at their annual Dino Days.
Saturday is Archaeology Day at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park. Delve into Yates Mill's history by participating in a mock archaeological dig and find out how professional archaeologists go about learning about the ancient past and about the people and places of more recent times. Also at the Mill this weekend, Paddle on the Pond lets you enjoy a morning canoe float. Corn Grinding Tours take you back in time with a tour of the corn grinding equipment in operation, with costumed interpreters and background of how the whole intricate system works.
Lace up your sneakers, fill up your water bottle and step back in time with the Historic Preservation Society of Durham on a Civil Rights Legacy Walking Tour of Durham.
Join Union soldiers at Bennett Place Historic Site as they discuss the days after the surrender and Reconstruction in the South. Living Historians will demonstrate life of the Northern soldiers who served under General Sherman at the close of the American Civil War.
