For those of you heading back to college or traditional calendar school, your summer may be winding down. With plenty of fun activities throughout the Triangle, you can give the summer a grand farewell!

Even though the winter holidays seem pretty far off, advanced tickets for Pullen Park's Holiday Express are already on sale through Reclink. For the first two weeks in December, Pullen Park will be festively decorated with thousands of lights and transformed into a holiday wonderland. The tickets sell out so get yours now before they are gone.

Start your weekend fun early! Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will explore Unlocking Jupiter's Secrets with NASA Solar System Ambassador. The Museum will also host its first Accessibility and Sensory-Friendly Night for families with special needs.

Also in Downtown Raleigh Thursday night, The Outliers with Jonah Riddle & Carolina Express will be playing a Pickin' in the Plaza concert.

Jon Stickley Trio will open with The Black Lillies headlining Thursday evening's Back Porch Music on the Lawn Concert at the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheater.

Men in Black will be the featured flick for Thursday night's Movies Under the Stars in Downtown Chapel Hill. Get there early to claim your spot on the Plaza and enjoy free kids activities before the movie.

Designed for the beginner camper and their parents, Rangers at Umstead State Park invite you to join them for Firebuilding And S'mores, an introduction to different firestarting methods and how to build a campfire.

Take an informal tour of the constellations with Morehead Planetarium educators Thursday after dark as Jordan Lake hosts a Skywatching session.

Festivals & Special Events

Grab your family for a friendly competition in the Sport of Science for Saturday's Family Science Olympiad at Marbles Kids Museum. Bring your brain power and take on a series of interactive and hands-on challenges like building a rocket, flying paper airplanes, and constructing a catapult.

All in and the Fuquay-Varina Police Department are hosting a Community Cookout Saturday at Falcon Park. There will be free food, music, and activities for all ages.

Are you planning a wedding? The North Carolina State Fairgrounds invites you to this weekend's Southern Bridal Show and Expo both Saturday and Sunday.

Also at the Fairgrounds this weekend you can come see the Double L Bar Cowboy Mounted Shooters and Por Una Vida Mejor, a health and wellness Fair oriented to the health issues of the Hispanic community

Join the North Carolina Museum of History Friday for Conservation Assistance Day. You are invited to bring up to three objects for assessment and advice on care from their conservators. Make sure to make an appointment in advance.

Yates Mill Historic Park will be offering Saturday and Sunday tours of the totally restored Mill. Celebrate National Tell A Joke Day Tuesday at the park with a fun-filled day, with lots of laughter.

Reclamation: Plays by Female Voices of Color is a series of one act plays to be presented on the front porch of the Mordecai House Saturday evening.

Discover the world of beading as Artist at Work: Elizabeth Constant Lewis demonstrates her unique skill Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of History.

Movies & Concerts

Friday night's Art in the Evening at the North Carolina Museum of Art will feature the band Tea Cup Gin and an in-depth exploration of Mini Magnificence. Friday night's movie will be the 1959 classic film, North by Northwest.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn brings Mel Melton to the stage along with the food trucks CockADoodleMoo and Barone Meatballs.

Head to Downtown Carrboro Friday night for the monthly 2nd Friday Artwalkwalk to enjoy the galleries, live music and art related entertainment.

The second Friday of the month brings Art After Dark back to Downtown Fuquay-Varina.

Second Friday also brings Art After Hours to Downtown Wake Forest. Come see the town come alive with food, merchants and music! As an added bonus, The Remedy will be playing this month's Friday Night on White Concert.

Movies By Moonlight brings Zootopia to the big screen at Regency Park Friday night.

The Holiday Band brings wide range of musical styles to the outdoor stage at the Holly Spring s Cultural Center Friday night along with food trucks American Meltdown Truck and Jay's Italian Ice.

Downtown Hillsborough kicks off their new Sundays In Hillsborough, Concerts & Carriage Rides this week! Join them for a concert on the Old Courthouse Lawn and a Carriage Ride. The series will continue weekly through October.

Raleigh Little Theater invites you to join them for Movies in the Garden Sunday evening. Come see the classic favorite Grease along with food trucks Sarge's Cafe and Cocoa Forte.

Ratatouille will be the Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

At the Parks

Pokemon Go is all the rage. Head over to Umstead State Park Friday afternoon for a Pokemon Go Hike.

Come check out Durant Nature Park's newest garden, the Sensory and Nature Play Garden! Park staff will have guided activities to delight the senses and encourage nature play Friday morning. Kids are invited back to the park Saturday afternoon to take a trip Back in Time.

Explore the world of Unhuggable Animals and their important roles in the habitat through hands-on activities, games and crafts Friday night at Crowder District Park.

Bring the family over to Bass Lake Park Friday night for a little friendly competition as they play Family Bingo.
