Happy Valentines Day! Have a wonderful day with your special people on Tuesday. This will be a jam packed weekend full of festivals, history, art and science.

Art, Music & History

Twilight $2 Thursdays lets you have fun at Marbles Kids Museum after hours every Thursday for only $2 admission! Come back to Marbles either Friday or Tuesday for a Valentine's MakeShop and Saturday, discover fun ways to get your heart in tip top shape during I HEART to Play Day!

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences hosts a a Science Cafe every Thursday night. This week they will be discussing how Outrageous Heads Led to Outrageously Large Dinosaurs.

Friday night at the NC Museum of Art makes a great date night with Friday Night Sound Bites that will explore Sympathetic Vision. Tea Cup Gin Unplugged will provide live music for Art in the Evening. After you wander the galleries, stay for the classic film, Much Ado about Nothing.

You won't want to miss Friday evening's 11th Annual Mill as Muse Artists Reception at Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park. Come see the entries, applaud the art and photography contest winners, and meet some of the artists.

Laurel Hills Community Center is hosting a Daddy Daughter Dance Friday evening. Get dressed up and celebrate Valentine's Day with a night of dancing, refreshments and great entertainment. There is an admission fee but, it includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, a flower for each daughter and door prizes.

Historic Oak View County Park is pleased to announce the opening of their newest exhibit, "Nuestras Historias, Nuestros Sueños/Our Stories, Our Dreams." While the exhibit will be at Oak View from until May 7th, you are invited to join them at for an Opening Reception Saturday afternoon.

The North Carolina Museum of History will be holding a Make It, Take It: Have a Heart drop in program Saturday so you can learn about the history of Valentine's Day, and craft a valentine based on one in the museum's collection. Also Saturday, you can take an African American History Highlights Tour throughout the museum to highlight some of the contributions made by African Americans to North Carolina history. Come back Sunday afternoon to enjoy the Mexican and Latin American folk music sounds of Flor y Canto.

Kids ages 5-12 are invited to Hill St. Community Center Sunday to make a Valentine's Day Craft!

The Holly Springs Cultural Center will be showing Finding Dory Monday morning.

The City of Raleigh Museum (COR) offers free admission every day and a variety of thought provoking exhibits exploring the many facets of Raleigh's history. In celebration of their new exhibit, Secrets of the Catherdral, and Delta Airlines' new RDU to Paris nonstop service, one lucky museum visitor will win Two Free Airline Tickets to Paris.

 Weekend Festivals and Shows

Spend Saturday learning about Charles Darwin and what his theories of natural selection have done for the world of science, research and education. Darwin Day on Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will celebrate Darwin's theories through hands-on science-education stations, speakers, displays of cutting edge research, crafts and games for all ages!

Saturday is also Revolutionary War Living History Day in Historic Hillsborough. Join them for dance performances, live military drills, spinning and weaving demonstrations, children"s activities, demonstrations by local John "Blackfeather" Jeffries about Occaneechi life and guided history tours

The Fairgrounds will host the three day Sportscard and Sports Memorabilia Show. They will have over 80 exhibitors as well as featured autobiography guests.

Looking for a bargain? New clothes, toys and other children's items will be offered all weekend at discounted prices during the Kids Exchange Consignment Sale at the Fairgrounds.

Come to Eno River State Park Friday afternoon to take a Fanny Breeze Homestead History Hike. Come back Saturday morning for some Birding.

Enjoy the American Tobacco Trail's history and natural surroundings while engaging in heart healthy physical activity Friday afternoon. Come back Saturday for a Winter Exploration Hike and a game of nature bingo.

Take a short Bird Scavenger Hunt and and learn some facts about a few common birds found at Jordan Lake both Saturday and Sunday morning.

Take a Walk in the Woods Saturday and discover the animals and plants that call Crowder District Park home. Come back Sunday to wish Happy Valentine's Day, Mother Nature by making a few homemade valentine presents for our feathered friends.

Become a nature detective! Explore ways to Track Animals by looking at their tracks and scat as you hike the trails at Durant Nature Park Saturday afternoon. They will be teaching you how to Teach Tracks and Scat to Kids Sunday.

Sunday's Winter Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Pump Station Trail.

Learn to perform Winter Tree ID Hike at Falls Lake State Recreation Area Sunday afternoon.

Bring your camera and join an experienced nature photographer on a leisurely Photography Stroll around Big Lake on Sunday.

Bring out your kids to join an Umstead State Park Ranger in Reading some fantastic children"s books about nature Monday afternoon.

Historic Yates Mill County Park will offer a Field School for kids ages 7-14 about Birds of A Feather Monday morning and a special program about the Legends of Saint Valentine Tuesday.

Occoneechee Mountain invites you to unwind Wednesday afternoon with a guided Forest Bathing/Nature Hike.
