It looks like the weather this weekend is going to be a little cooler. Watch out for showers to kick off the weekend, but beautiful sunshine for Mother's Day on Sunday!

Festivals Around Town

The North Carolina Museum of History presents the annual Longleaf Film Festival 2017 both Friday and Saturday. This year's free festival will screen juried narrative and documentary film submissions from around the world-and our own backyard.

Holly Springs will celebrate Turtlefest Saturday at Bass Lake Park with interactive exhibits, games, crafts and a children's art contest.

There is an air of excitement as the NC Zoo celebrates Birds, Blooms & Bees Saturday.

Morrisville Community Park presents SpringFest Saturday with entertainment, carnival midway games including a variety of kiddie and adult games, a Kid Zone, inflatables, mechanical bull and some of your favorite food trucks!

The Ritmo Latino Festival spices up Downtown Cary Saturday.

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host Mid Atlantic Hound Association Dog Show

Sunday kicks off Bear Awareness Week at the Museum of Life and Science. Meet their animal keeping team and learn more about the care, training, and behavior of the Museum's four rescued Black Bears during daily programs. Tuesday is also another Durham Community Day where Durham residents with ID can enjoy admission to the Museum for free.

There will be a free Shred Event in Downtown Holly Springs Tuesday morning.

Fun Thursday & Friday

This Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences explores Biomimicry and Innovative Designs Inspired by Nature.

Back Porch Music on the Lawn returns to the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheatre Thursday with a concert by Front Country with the Demolition String Band

Crowder By Night will be searching for those Amazing Amphibians Friday after dark at Crowder District Park.

The SAS Show Choir Vocal Motion will be presenting their concert, Measures of Love both Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Free tickets are required so click through for all the information.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will feature a local band and area food trucks.

The Live and Local Music & Arts Series in Downtown Chapel Hill will feature the fan favorite Cirque du Plaza Friday night with Down to Earth Aerials, a face painter, and a balloon artist.

Friday Night on White returns to Downtown Wake Forest with a concert by Smile.

Art in the Evening Friday features Gypsy Swing by the Oak City Hot Mess and a sound bite about Capturing Individuality at the North Carolina Museum of Art. This week's Spring Film will feature Casanova.

The second Friday of the month brings 2nd Friday Artwalkwalk to Carrboro and Chapel Hill, Art After Dark to Fuquay Varina and Art After Hours to Downtown Wake Forest.

Getting Outside at the Parks

Create great Mother's Day cards while learning about different styles of mothering in the animal world at Saturday's Are You My Mama? program at Blue Jay County Park.

Join an Eno River Park Ranger Saturday and learn about Moms of the Animal Kingdom who live in the park. Come back to the park Sunday to meet live turtles and a snake and learn about the habitats and habits of Living Reptiles.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park presents their Saturday and Sunday Tours of the Historic Mill as well as a drop in Art in The Park: Summer Blooms at Yates Millpond both Saturday and Sunday.

Durant Nature Preserve invites you to bring the whole family to go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt Saturday afternoon.

Holly Springs Police are sponsoring a Rabies Clinic Saturday at Sugg Farm Park.

C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!) returns to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area to introduce kids ages 6-12 to the basics of fishing Sunday morning.

Field School for ages 7-14 will explore those A-Maize-ing Grains on Monday morning at Historic Yates Mill County Park. Also Monday, kids can take a History Detective Mill Tour.

Come out and let your kids Fish with a Ranger in Occoneechee's ponds Tuesday afternoon.

Learn To Fish with an Umstead State Park Ranger Wednesday afternoon to learn the basics of fishing and get a chance to practice your casting on Big Lake.

Music & Culture Come Alive

The Loose Strings Band will be performing their tight vocal harmonies and sweet rhythms Saturday at the Sertoma Amphitheatre.

Saturday's Science Buffet is a lively science presentation featuring a "taste" of everything the NC Museum of Natural Sciences has to offer: live animals, weird science facts, dramatic demonstrations, and explosions (small and controlled of course), all seasoned with a touch of humor.

EG Peters Band will be playing the tunes at this week's Six Sundays in Spring Concert at Carroll Joyner Park.

The North Carolina Museum of History will present a Music of the Carolinas concert Sunday afternoon featuring Kamara Thomas & the Night Drivers.

Holly Springs Cultural Center's Monday morning movie will be Stuart Little.

Closing the Race Gap: A Discussion on Health, Wealth, Education and Media will take place Tuesday evening at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences as part of their featured exhibition, "RACE: Are We So Different?"

The Hob Nob Jazz Series Wednesday night at Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park will feature the Mint Julep Jazz Band.
