July 6th - 12th Triangle 2017

by Pam & Michael Davison

Wonderful Summer weather lends itself to having fun with friends and family. With such an amazing variety of events going on this weekend, from movies and concerts to hikes and history programs, I hope you can find something to do to make this weekend part of your summer to remember.

The Farmers Markets are in full swing now. Just about every town in the Triangle has its own Farmer's Market Saturday morning and several have weekday times, too. Go to the Event Search at Parkgeek.com and plug in Farmer's Market and we will give you all the details so you can bring home some local honey or some just picked tomatoes.

The State Fair is still several months away, but there will be a Gem & Jewelry Show at the State Fairgrounds this weekend along with a 4-H Horse Show.

There are several reoccurring events every week. The NC Museum of Natural Sciences boasts extended hours and Science Cafe Talks every Thursday night. This week features some competitive Science Trivia. The Museum also invites you to their special exhibit, Race: Are We So Different? through October 22nd.

Also every Thursday evening, Marbles Kids Museum offers discount admission and stays open late for Twilight $2 Thursdays.

Get outside, get moving and get healthy every Thursday morning at Raven Rock State Park. Take a Hike for Your Health, a guided 3 to 6 mile hike that varies week to week.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning is a hidden gem in Raleigh near the NC Museum of Art. While the trails and nature play area are open to the public every day, they host Nature Stories Thursday mornings, guided Walk through the Seasons on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, Nature Play Days every Tuesday, Citizen Science every Saturday and Nature Adventures on both Saturday and Sunday.

The North Carolina Museum of Art invites you to take a Meet Your Museum Tour or a Weekend Family Friendly Tour every Saturday and Sunday.

Lake Crabtree County Park hosts Crabtree Casters on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month for an informal fishing experience.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park invites you to get a peek inside the fully renovated mill on a half hour Mill Tour on Saturdays or a one hour Mill Heritage & Local History Tour on Sundays.

First Friday, History and Museum Fun

First Friday brings lots of fun to Downtown Raleigh! Enjoy a Downtown Gallery Walk as well as extended hours and special events at the City of Raleigh Museum, The NC Museum of History and Marbles Kids Museum

Outside the limits of the City lights, Bass Lake Park celebrates First Friday with a Family Fun Night. Start off the evening with arts and crafts, meeting a live animal, or fishing with one of their poles. End the evening with either a Concert by Trish Miller or a Magic Show with Dan the Magic Man.

In honor of National Gingersnap Day, Historic Yates Mill County Park will celebrate Friday with some Park Tales featuring Gingerbread for Liberty!

Grab your own picnic lunch and teddy bear from home, and head to Historic Yates Mill County Park Saturday through Monday for a Teddy Bears Picnic.

Bring kids back to the park Tuesday for Field School where they will explore learning all about Dairy Farmers.

Science Buffet on Saturday is a lively science presentation featuring a "taste" of everything the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences has to offer: live animals, weird science facts, dramatic demonstrations, and explosions (small and controlled of course), all seasoned with a touch of humor.

Music to fill the Air

Skylar Gudasz w/ Special Guest Kamara Thomas will be performing a concert at Durham Central Park Friday night.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will feature local bands and area food trucks.

Trumpet player Al Strong will be playing Saturday evening at the Sertoma Amphitheater.

Finish out the weekend at Fred Fletcher Park with a Sunday in the Park Concert featuring a performance by the Capitol Transit.

Summer Movie Fun

The North Carolina Museum of Art will be showing Sixteen Candles on Friday night on their huge outdoor screen. They will be screening Say Anything on Saturday after dark.

Apex Nature Park will host a Movie Saturday after dark.

Holly Springs Cultural Center will be showing Inside Out Monday Morning.

Fun at the Parks
