For those of you heading back to college or traditional calendar school, your summer may be winding down. With plenty of fun activities throughout the Triangle, you can give the summer a grand farewell!

Even though the winter holidays seem pretty far off, advanced tickets for Pullen Park's Holiday Express are already on sale through Reclink. For the first two weeks in December, Pullen Park will be festively decorated with thousands of lights and transformed into a holiday wonderland. The tickets sell out so get yours now before they are gone.

Start your weekend fun early! Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will travel from Day to Night and Back Again, a Science Cafe with Dr. Rachel Smith, Head of the Astronomy & Astrophysics Research Lab and Curator of Meteorites.

Movies by Moonlight will bring the 2016 flick Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to the big outdoor screen Thursday after dark at Regency Park.

Space Jam will be the featured flick for Thursday night's Movies Under the Stars in Downtown Chapel Hill. Get there early to claim your spot on the Plaza and enjoy free kids activities before the movie.

The power film Hidden Figures will be playing on the outdoor screen of Raleigh Little Theater accompanied by "Are You Smarter Than a Rocket Scientist?" & Performance by the cast of RLT's "Crowns" before the movie and food trucks Fresh Outta Brooklyn, Tacos Las Gringas and Jay's Italian Ice.

Festivals & Special Events

The WPTF Weekend Gardener Show with Mike Raley and Anne Clapp will be broadcasting live from the Raleigh State Farmers Market Saturday morning.

BikeFest 2017 comes to Downtown Hillsborough Saturday. There are a variety of rides that have registration fees, but there is also a free, family-oriented 7 mile, Historic District Fun Ride in and around Hillsborough All rides require registration so click through for all the info.

The Annual Community Art and Music Day Festival at Powell Drive Park will take place on Saturday. The festival will be a family event full of fun art activities and live music.

Are you planning a wedding? The NC State Fairgrounds will host the Southern Bridal Show and Expo with over 150 Triangle wedding experts.

Also at the Fairgrounds this weekend you can come see the UHC Youth Day Horse Show and Bead Mercantile Show,

Explore fabrics and threads in the Museum's new African art galleries during this weekend's Family Fun Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

History Comes Alive

Join the North Carolina Museum of History to explore North Carolina and World War I. The free, special exhibit runs until January 6th and covers 6,500 square feet with 500 artifacts, period photography, a trench diorama, historical film footage, educational interactive components, and video re-enactments.

Yates Mill Historic Park will be offering Saturday and Sunday tours of the totally restored Mill. Celebrate National Tell A Joke Day Wednesday at the park with a fun-filled day, with lots of laughter.

Sir Walter's Lacers will be conducting a Lacing Demonstration the Mordecai House Saturday. Come learn about the historical art form of bobbin lacing.

Take a Durham Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour Saturday and learn about Durham's tobacco heritage through stories and experiences of Durham residents.

The North Carolina Museum of Art invites you to join them every weekend for a variety of free tours. On Saturdays, you can take a Guided Tour of the Museum Park. Both Saturday and Sunday, they offer Meet Your Museum Tours and Weekend Family Friendly Tours.

Movies & Concerts at the Parks and Museums

Friday night's outdoor movie at the North Carolina Museum of Art will be Kubo and the Two Strings.

Celebrate National S'Mores Day in S'Morrisville Friday! They're hosting a s'mores themed celebration as part of their outdoor movie series featuring Scooby Doo Camp.

The second Friday of the month brings Art After Dark back to Downtown Fuquay-Varina and 2nd Friday Artwalk to Carrborro.

Second Friday also brings Art After Hours to Downtown Wake Forest. Come see the town come alive with food, merchants and music! As an added bonus, Love Tribe will be playing this month's Friday Night on White Concert joined by a wide variety of local food trucks. Click through for the line up.

Selah Dubb brings their modern day Surf-Reggae-Rock to the outdoor stage at the Holly Spring s Cultural Center Friday night.

Durham Central Park presents a concert by The Allen Boys Friday evening.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn brings local bands to the stage along with Triangle food trucks.

Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboy are musical gunslingers, vaudevillian hucksters, and old-fashioned tent revivalists. They will be at Bond Park Saturday evening presenting everything from heartbreaking ballads to rousing sing-alongs.

Moana will be playing on the big screen after dark at Joyner Park Saturday.

Forlorn Strangers will be playing a concert Saturday evening at the Apex Nature Park Amphitheatre.

James and the Giant Peach will be the Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

At the Parks

Discover just how special bats are when Lake Crabtree County Park Goes Batty Friday after dark. Saturday morning, they will hold an Insect Song Workshop.

Also after the sun goes down, Blue Jay Point County Park invites you to join them for a Twilight Hike.

Durant Nature Park staff will have guided activities to delight the senses and encourage Nature Play in their Sensory and Nature Play Garden. Come back Saturday after dark to see what animals are up for the Night Shift.

Bring the family over to Bass Lake Park Friday night for a little friendly competition as they play Family Bingo.

Saturday night is an Astronomy Night at Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve. The monthly program begins with an indoor presentation and moves outside to view the moon, stars, and planets with the Preserve's telescope.

Come on out to Eno River State Park Saturday night and discover an abandoned cemetery deep in the woods as you share Ghost Stories of the lore around those who may still haunt the woods. Earlier Saturday, they will hold programs about Succession and Waterflow along the Eno.

Morehead Planetarium & Science Center educators will have telescopes out at Jordan Lake Saturday evening for a Skywatching session looking at the Geminid meteor shower. Saturday afternoon, Ellen Tinsley aka doc Ellen, will give a presentation on the Bald Eagles at Jordan Lake.

In addition to all their weekly scheduled activities, Prairie Ridge Ecostation will hold a Butterfly Walk Saturday afternoon.

Learn about those Remarkable Reptiles Sunday afternoon at Harris Lake County Park.

Learn what Geocaching is all about then take off to find geocaches hidden along the American Tobacco Trail Sunday. They will provide GPS units and instruction on how to use them or you can bring your own unit or smartphone with a geocache app

This week several of our County parks host their monthly preschool programs. Check out what's going on a Harris Lake, Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve and Crowder District Park.
