Labor Day Weekend is only a week away. The summer events are winding down and our fabulous fall festival season will soon be in full swing!

Kick off the Weekend!

Join them at the Bond Park Boathouse Friday evening for live music, food trucks and evening boat rentals.

As a special treat Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Monster Drawing Rally 2017 features seventy-eight artists at all stages of their careers taking shifts to draw for an hour in front of a live audience while DJ Forge will spin music and Food Trucks The Parlour, Stuft, Flirting with Fire, Bulkogi, and Soomsoom Pita Pockets will be there to make it a complete night out!

Traditional Dance Caller, Connie Carringer will teach fun Dances for the whole family Friday night at the Halle Cultural Arts Center along with a live old-time string band.

This Thursday's Science Cafe at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will focus on Imaging the Developing Brain in Autism along with extended hours.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences presents Final Friday! A/V Geeks' Skip Elsheimer provides a fun night of trivia and tongue-in-cheek commentary on movies from his vault of 24,000 films. Movies will be complemented by experts and hands-on science stations related to each night's theme. This month they will be showing the classic film "Jaws."

Laila Nur & The Love Riot will be the featured band Friday night for a Durham Central Park Concert.

RPM will be playing the tunes at Friday's Summer at the Springs Outdoor Concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center lawn.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn will feature a Triangle band and local food trucks.

Head on over to Downtown Historic Hillsborough for a Last Friday Art Walk and music by The Embers.

You are also invited to join the Final Friday Cary Art Loop with participating art galleries, restaurants, coffee houses, and other businesses that showcase visual arts and music. There is even a free C-Tran shuttle service between downtown venues.

Finally Friday in Downtown Apex brings entertainment, extended hours and food to Salem Street. There will also be a free concert by Christiane & the Strays at the Apex Historic District.

Festivals and More Movies and Music

The Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival is celebrating its 41st year with two days! Join them at Cary's Town Hall Campus Saturday and Sunday for the annual spectacular featuring arts & crafts, kids activities, live entertainment and festival food.

The Raleigh-Durham AfroCaribbean-Association presents the 5th Annual CaribMask Carnival Parade and Festival in Downtown Raleigh Saturday.

Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site invites you to step back in time Saturday during their living history event. There will be Period-costumed living historians demonstrating camp life as well as musket and artillery demonstrations.

Join them for Historic Method Day and celebrate the history of Berry O'Kelly, Harveleigh White and the Method Community at the Method Community Center Saturday. There will be a day of fun filled family activities and a trip down memory lane in the days of Method, N.C.

The Duke Homestead Historic Site will host their annual Harvest and Hornworm Festival Saturday where you can see historic tobacco harvesting, traditional tobacco crafts, the Duke family's earliest tobacco factory, the "Rise and Fall of Liberty" documentary, and the last tobacco auction in Durham

Y'all At Dix Park with the Kirby Derby is Dix Park"s first (and free!) concert series! Located in beautiful Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, NC - Y"all At Dix Park features live local music, local food trucks, great beers, plus fun for all ages including field day games - for both kids and adults.

Join them for the final 2017 Movies in Falcon Park featuring the movie, Moana.

Visit Middle Creek Community Center's Open House on Sunday to sign up for fall fun! Instructors will be on hand and all registrations during the Open House will get a 20% discount.

Bring the family and come travel the world in Raleigh at the International Block Party Sunday. There will be International Food, Desserts, Dances and Performances from around the world as well as international beers brewed by local breweries!

The Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will feature The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

More Weekend Fun at the Parks

Come join an Umstead Park Ranger and a certified Leave No Trace instructor to learn the ins and outs of successful and safe fire building Friday evening for some Firebuilding And S'mores.

On the 4th Saturday of every month, you can take a Durham Architecture & the Urban Landscape Walking Tour with stops like the 1915 1st National Bank, the 1921 Mechanics and Farmers Bank Building, and Preservation Durham"s one-time home, the Snow Building, built in 1933.

Take a Walk in the Woods Saturday at Crowder District Park to discover the animals and plants that call the park home. While you're there, check out their Discovery Table to learn fun facts about the animals of the park. Come back Sunday to explore Life Under a Log.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be offering Saturday at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday. You can also see the park from the water as you Paddle the Pond Saturday morning or afternoon. Come back to the park Sunday for Water Balloons!

Bring your binoculars and join them for a relaxing morning of Birdwatching at Eno River State Park Saturday.

Join them at Historic Oak View County Park Saturday for a one-hour History Hike through the old farmstead. The property tour will include all of the buildings and the pecan grove, gazebo, and water tower, including some hands-on activities.

In addition to their regularly scheduled Citizen Science Saturday and Nature Play Day, you are invited to join the Rangers at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning Saturday for a Dragonfly Walk.

There will be a Nature Way Station set up at the Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve farmhouse Saturday so you can stop by to learn about different plants and animals that call the Preserve home.

Shinrin-yoku is Japanese for Forest Bathing. Join a volunteer Sunday on Occoneechee Mountain for a leisurely hike as you enjoy the sights and sounds of the NC forest and the Eno River

Lots to do at the Fairgrounds

There is quite an eclectic mix again this weekend at the State Fairgrounds.

The Hunt Horse Complex will be hosting an Indoor Horse Show on Friday through Sunday

The North Carolina RV Dealers Association Fall RV Show & Sale will give you the opportunity to check out a wide variety of RVs for your fall adventures. This event does have an admission fee, but you can get coupons at their website.
