Welcome to a fabulous fall festival weekend! There are so many awesome festivals throughout the parks and museums this weekend to pick from with a great variety of music, culture and activities. Keep an eye on the weather, especially the 9/11 Commemoration events on Monday.

Science in the Movies: Dinosaurs & Paleontologists will explore why Hollywood is so captivated by dinosaurs. Thursday night at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, they will be watching clips of your favorite dinosaur films and have all your questions answered by our panel of experts.

Also Thursday night at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, join them for their weekly Science Thursday with a Science Cafe and extended hours. The first Thursday of every month features some challenging Science Trivia.

Every Thursday afternoon and evening September through November, you are invited to head over to Knightdale Station Park for a Food Truck Rodeo.

Liquid Pleasure will be playing a Follow Me 2 Fuquay-Varina Concert Thursday along with local craft breweries, vineyards and eateries.

Monday commemorates 9/11 in the Triangle with several opportunities for service. Activate Raleigh 2017 aims to mobilize volunteers with a variety of service projects and then culminates with a commemoration on Monday at Red Hat Amphitheater. The Durham YMCA has two ways to serve the community. Both events offer online registration.

Festivals

The State Farmers Market in Raleigh will highlight Triangle Pottery along with plenty of local produce this Saturday.

Come celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Celebrate with a group hike and a small celebration with the Eno River Farmer's Market Saturday morning.

Come check out the annual Open House at the Harris Nuclear Power Plant Saturday. You can tour the control room simulator, get up close to live animals from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, learn about Plant Security, meet plant experts and eat ice cream.

The State Fairgrounds will host the annual Holy Trinity Greek Festival. Come enjoy authentic Greek food, homemade Greek pastries, marketplace, live Greek music, Greek dance groups & more.

Thursday through Sunday at the State Fairgrounds is also a J. Crew Fall Regional Warehouse Sale.

There will be a Arabian & Half-Arabian Sport Horse Nationals Horse Show Tuesday through Sunday at the Hunt Horse Complex.

Saturday is AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the State Fairgrounds. There will be a Microchip clinic, Canine Good Citizen testing, dog sport demonstrations, My Dog Can Do That, opportunity to try agility with your dog, vendors, games for kids, and Meet The Breeds.

Saturday is also Shine A Light Family Fun Day at the Fairgrounds. Join them for bounce houses, karaoke, K-9 unit, and a fire truck to educate children on what our local heroes do. There will also be food trucks on hand!

Soar over to the NC Zoo Saturday and learn about raptors during their special event: Birds of Prey.

Enjoy student talent showcase, local artists, interactive art stations, local performers, local bands, food trucks, inflatables, games, backpack/school supply giveaway, food drive, bookmobile & reading corner, farmers market, IdentAKid, early childhood zone, and health living information at Saturday's K-Fest (Knightdale Kids Education Festival).

Fun Fall Events

Come to Bass Lake Park Friday evening for a little friendly competition as you play Family Bingo.

Enjoy a leisurely hike along a portion of the Peninsula Trail to observe the natural world while playing a game of nature bingo Saturday morning at Harris Lake County Park.

Adults are invited to a Spider Workshop Saturday at Durant Nature Park. This workshop will count towards Criteria II requirements of the N.C. Environmental Education Certification Program.

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be giving Saturdays at the Old Mill Tours and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation welcomes young children to their Nature Stories on Thursday mornings and the whole family for Citizen Science Saturdays.

Durham"s tobacco heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents on a Heritage Walking Tour on the second Saturday every month.

Come see, explore, and learn about the history of the Piper Cox House, a restored colonial home while your play colonial games Saturday at Eno River State Park.

Culture in the Triangle

Apex artist, Sean Durham, splashes the walls in contemporary design this fall at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Join them Friday evening for an Opening Reception.

The Little Mermaid will be on the big outdoor screen at River Park Friday night.

Downtown Wake Forest will be the scene of an incredible live music doubleheader on Friday, that features two of the area's most popular party bands; Crush and the Magic Pipers.

The North Carolina Museum of Art kicks off the weekend Friday with an Opening Reception for Andrea Donnelly. Meet North Carolina-raised artist Andrea Donnelly in the gallery and talk with her over a glass of wine about the inspiration for her exhibition We've Met Before.

Come on out to Fuquay-Varina Friday night for the monthly Art After Dark.

On the second Friday night of each month the streets of Downtown Wake Forest come alive with food, merchants and music for Art After Hours.

The 2nd Friday Artwalk also takes place this Friday in Carrboro. Many of the galleries will have live music and other art related entertainment.

The North Carolina Museum of History invites you to Lines of Fire: The Search for the Greatest War Letters Ever Written Sunday afternoon. Author Andrew Carroll will discuss his book, hold a Q&A and do some book signing.

Come to the Holly Springs Cultural Center Monday morning for Treasure Planet

Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park hosts the Pickin' In the Pines Concert Series every Wednesday through October 11th. This Wednesday, you can hear the sounds of Grass Cats.
