Fall Festivals around the Triangle

Heritage Day at Oak View County Park is everything an old time fair should be. Live entertainment, heritage crafts, re-enactors, hay rides, historic farm equipment, cane pole fishing, festival foods and lots of live animals! Come on out and cheer on the 4-H kids as they compete for ribbons. ParkGeek will be there, too!
The Town of Chapel Hill hosts the Annual Festifall Street Fair. The festival boasts a plentiful mix of artisans showing pottery, paintings, photography, jewelry, candles, toys, woodworks, fabrics & clothing on one side of the street with downtown merchant displays on the other side. A large food court pavilion and a variety of entertainers performing on stages located throughout the festival round out the festival atmosphere.
Bass Lake Day celebrates environmental education with interactive displays and exhibits about North Carolina's environment. Learn about soil types and water quality, touch pelts from a variety of our native critters and explore the wide diversity of aquatic life we enjoy. The evening will end with a bluegrass concert.
Saturday is also the Heritage Day: Annual Fall Festival out at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Come out to explore the unique cultural and natural resources of this region with hands on activities live entertainment exhibits and live demonstrations.
Sertoma Arts Center is also hosting a Fall Arts Fair. Join them for live demonstrations, refreshments, entertainment, and gallery exhibits. as well as a Crafts Fair! Their instructors, studio participants and students will have their best work on display.
The Discover Downtown Scavenger Hunt offers participants the opportunity to learn about downtown and win great prizes and gift cards.
Family Fest at the American Tobacco Campus promises to be an exciting family-friendly day featuring activities focusing on family, health, safety, nutrition, education, community awareness, and most importantly family fun!
Phoenix Fest in downtown Durham will feature some of the best musical talent from North Carolina and the southeast, with over 20 performers entertaining festival goers with non-stop reggae, gospel, R&B, blues, jazz and hip-hop. Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas and stay the whole day.
The Mariposa School for Children with Autism presents its Third Annual fundraiser, Maripolooza at Regency Park. Join them for kids activities, food, a silent auction and some great live entertainment.
 
First Friday is Back
The Fridy night movie, Ikiru at the North Carolina Museum of Art will be joined by a Friday Night Wine Bar and the opportunity to stroll through the galleries which are open late. Saturday, join them with the kids for another Family Fun Saturday.
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is ready to host another great evening! This months Natural Horror Picture Show is the 1963 classic, The Slime People . The Nature Art Gallery will host an opening reception for "Birds: A Collaboration in Clay" and live music will be provided by Steve Harvell and Daniel Sean.
First Friday at the Movies at the North Carolina Museum of History will feature the rousing musical about the American colonies' move toward independence, 1776.
Bass Lake Park will be hosting their last Family Fun Night of the season. Start out with arts & crafts, live animals, fishing and boating. Wind up the night with a concert by Trish Miller.
Head on over to City Market for the Great Pumpkin Sale and live tunes performed by the GB4 Band. Or take the First Friday Gallery Walk in Downtown Raleigh.
Unplug your cell phones and computers and come Downtown for music and magicians both Friday and Saturday during Wake Forest Unplugged.
Both the Raleigh City Museum and Marbles Kids Museum stay open late for First Friday. On Saturday, Marbles Kids Museum welcomes Eco Heroes Guest Star, Green Power for an exploration of solar and wind power. Also at Marbles, the Tarheel Tale Tellers will be back with some Not so Spooky Stories.
The Holly Springs Community Band will be entertaining audiences at the Holly Springs Cultural Center with their wide variety of musical styles during their Fall Concert.
The music continues Saturday with a concert at the Sertoma Amphitheater by award-winning children's musician, Roger Day.
Fun at the Parks
Harris Lake County Park invites you to join them for an Open House at their Sensory Garden. The festivities will feature face painting, crafts, coloring, games, guided tours of the garden, and story times.
Join other volunteers at Blue Jay Point County Park for a continuation of the annual Big Sweep. Take some time to give back to a park as you help clean up the Falls Lake shoreline.
Bird enthusiast, Vernon invites you to Birding with Vernon. Join him on an easy walk at Lake Crabtree County Park while looking for and listening to the areas birds.
They will be talking about birds on the American Tobacco Trail, too. Hello Birdie will explore which birds call the park home during the cooler months. Later in the day, you can take in some Leaf Art as you learn to identify common trees by their leaves with a hike through the fall woods.
Daytrips
Staycations were all the rage this summer, but another way to feel like you are taking a vacation is to enjoy a daytrip outside your normal routine.
Riverfest at the Downtown Wilmington Riverfront will feature something for everyone from arts & crafts, live entertainment, a Pirate Invasion, an extensive kids zone, the Great Waiters Wine Race and a skateboard competition.
Now its October, start getting in the Halloween spirit at the Fabulous Fantail Film Festival on the deck of the Battleship North Carolina for the double feature, Dracula and Frankenstein.
The Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site is only about an hour outside the Triangle, but a trip there will provide a much longer journey back in time. Life at Home During the Civil War will incorporate costumed living historians demonstrating a variety of mid 19th century domestic skills such as open hearth cooking, sewing, natural dyeing, spinning, & knitting as well as discussions throughout the day regarding the hardships that the common southern lady endured.
Are you looking for a beautiful drive to a great destination? Take a country drive out to the NC Zoo this weekend and you be treated to Zoo Fest in addition to all the incredible animals. Zoo Fest will celebrate Native Americans through art work, dance, music and mystery. Also, over at the Zoo's African Pavilion, there will be a Violet Show for the whole month of October.
