Halloween is just around the corner! It looks like the weather is going to be awesome so whether you are looking for spooks and screams or science and music, have a great weekend! Feel free to go to the ParkGeek.com Events Search if you want to get the whole listing of holiday events.

Lunchtime Thursday is Sweet Potato Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh. Join them for lunch and enjoy a free sample of a sweet potato dessert.

Hill Street Community Center hosts Creative Crafts throughout the Holidays and invites kids to join them this Thursday for a Halloween Craft.

Put on your best costume and join them for a fun evening of spectacular music, fun, games, and treats at Laurel Hills Park Thursday evening.

Wake Forest starts things off early with a Halloween Spooktacular at Flaherty Park Community Center this Thursday. This year's festivities will include a costume contest, face painting and a cupcake walk, along with a variety of other ghostly games and activities, and free pumpkin giveaways.

Food Truck Thursdays continue at Knightdale Station Park for both lunch and dinner.

Chavis Community Center hosts their Fall Festival Thursday evening with a fun-filled evening of games, activities and of course, candy.

Bring your own pumpkin to enjoy some Pumpkin Painting at Umstead Park Thursday afternoon.

Come discover the story of Great Ghostly Gourds Thursday afternoon at Yates Mill Historic Park as they explore a Side of History.

Leading up to Halloween

There are so many fun options for you and your little gouls and gobblins. Some of these events do have admission fees and many require pre-registration (and some sell out fast) so make sure you click through for all the information.

Friday night, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro presents a Fright Light Laser Show on their 40 foot dome theater featuring a star studded soundtrack including the songs Thriller, Dead Man's Party and a Monster Mash.

The Witches on Salem Street will be out in Apex for a Ladies Night of shopping, dining and fun Friday! Wear your witches hat while shopping and dining to receive special discounts at downtown Apex restaurants and businesses. Come back with the kids Saturday to Trick or Treat on Salem Street and then mosey on over to the Halle Cultural Arts Center for the Goblins Grove, a family dance featuring music from the 80's & 90's as well as spooky favorites.

Mordecai Historic Park goes all out on Saturday with the Haunted Mordecai Free Festival and Haunted Mordecai Lantern Tours. Friday & Saturday nights they will be running Haunted Trolley Tours.

Come to Hillsborough's Spooktacular Weekend! They will offer Spirits of Hillsborough Haunted Tours both Friday and Saturday. Their annual Halloween Spooktacular party will be Friday evening at the Central Recreation Center.

Zombies will prevail this weekend. Zombiepalooza will premiere Friday night at the Cary Theater featuring local filmmakers' own zombie films; cosplay zombies, and classic films to scare the pants right off of you! Saturday night, the Raleigh Zombie Walk starts at Moore Square.

Trick or Treat in Downtown Fuquay-Varina Friday afternoon and a Trunk or Treat event Sunday at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church parking lot in Downtown Holly Springs.

Running through Halloween, Marbles Kids Museum invites you to Celebrate Halloween. Join them for phantastic fun with activities like Spooky Art, Monster Science Lab and Frankentoys! Come in costume to show off your Halloween spirit.

Friday, the Carrboro Halloween Carnival will bring great carnival games and wickedly good prizes to Downtown Carrboro.

Cary's Howlin' Good Halloween will bring festivities to the Downtown Park in Cary Saturday. Join them for Cary's Great Pumpkin Carve and Family Friendly Halloween TV Specials. They will even have two sessions of a 3D Pumpkin Carving Class. Also in Cary on both Friday and Saturday, check out Herbert's Haunted House. The Cary Town Band will present Spooky Music at their free concert in the Downtown Park Friday and you can take a Ghost Walk in Downtown Cary or attend the Costume Dance Party on Saturday.

Also in Cary, the monthly Bands, Bites and Boats at Bond Park will bring the music of Justin Runyon and food trucks Cousins Maine Lobster & Stuft to the park with after-hours boat rentals. As a special treat Friday, there will also be a Pumpkin Flotilla.

Scare-o-lina Skies returns to Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. Explore the dark legends behind the constellations in their Adult/Teen Version with a show on Friday night and the Family Edition Sunday.

The North Carolina Museum of History will hold a Halloween Parade out on Bicentennial Plaza Tuesday afternoon. Join First Lady of NC, Kristin Cooper for a day of costumes, crafts, treats and a Halloween Parade also on with the food truck, So Good Pupusas.

Chapel Hill hosts the famous Homegrown Halloween Tuesday with a festive downtown and large crowds of costumed revelers.

Fun Fall Festivals!

The Method Community Center is hosting its annual Fall Festival Friday evening with carnival games, video gaming, healthy treat bags and a music DJ.

Bring the family and celebrate fall at Saturday's Fall Festival and Living History Event at Bentonville Battlefield! Come enjoy hayrides, carnival games based on 19th century games, corn shucking contest, and townball (19th century baseball).

The Town of Holly Springs presents HollyFest Saturday at Sugg Farm with a variety of events including kids zone, cornhole cup, food trucks, business expo, live entertainment, kids activities, and arts & crafts expo. After the sun goes down, come back to Sugg Farm for the Haunted Hayride.

Crowder District Park hosts Canine Contests Saturday. They're looking for the best dog tricks and canine costumes!

Durham Central Park will also go to the dogs Sunday during Barktoberfest. There will be an interactive trick dog show presented by Dare Devil Dogs, a costume contest, photo booth, caninne food drive, fun walk, pet market and foster and adoption opportunities.

Campfire stories & songs, hayrides, treats, crafts, games, and face painting are all part of the Hallow-Eno Festival Tuesday night at West Point on the Eno.

Museums, Movies and More Fun

Explore the inner workings of Historic Yates Mill and witness the power of water as it turns the milling machinery during a Saturday at the Old Mill Tour and on Sunday, a Mill Heritage & Local History Tour. Saturday, you can take in the fabulous fall colors as you Paddle the Pond. Join them in the park's Finley Center any time Monday - Wednesday for some Spooky Crafts to celebrate your fantastic Halloween! Park Tales on Monday will explore Mouse's First Halloween.

Final Friday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences features the flick, Ghostbusters as well as lots of fun science stations like Sons of Zuul, Ghost Camp, Slimer Spot, Ghost Faces, a Button Handout and live music.

Apex Community Center will host a PJ's & Popcorn Movie Night Friday night with a little kid friendly movie.

The Lost City of Z will be the featured flick Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Pullen Park continues to feature Dinner and a Movie Friday evenings in October. This week features the family classic "ET".

Downtown Historic Hillsborough will host a River Park Concert Saturday evening celebrating musicians from local counties, the state of North Carolina, and the southeastern U.S.

Take a Walk in the Dark with the North Carolina Museum of History Saturday in this immersive live theatre experience. Audiences will follow pirates, pilots, and pioneers as they twist and turn throughout a lantern-lit tour of the real Story of North Carolina!

The movie Spooky Buddies will be shown Monday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

Halloween Fun at the Parks

As Halloween draws near, come gather around the campfire, enjoy a s'more and listen to Spooky(-ish) Stories. Leigh Farm Park will provide the fire, s"mores, and spooky stories Friday night.

For the second year, you are invited to Halloween Phantasmagoria. Join them Friday night to explore historical concepts of Spiritualism, awe, and wonder from the 19th century at Duke Homestead. You are invited to wander the property to see what wonders you can find.

Celebrate the season with a Wagon Ride along the back roads of Harris Lake Park to search for hidden pumpkins then return to the Longleaf Shelter to carve a Halloween masterpiece with your family.

Learn about fall fruits of all kinds (and who eats them!) before creating a Jack-O-Lantern of your own Saturday at Blue Jay Point County Park.

Celebrate the magic of the season with a weekend of safe daytime Halloween fun at the NC Zoo. Enjoy trick or treat games, storytelling, live entertainment and a children"s costume contest both Saturday and Sunday.

Morrisville invites you to Trick-or-Treat the Trail on Saturday at Morrisville Community Park. They will start with a Family-Friendly Trail and end the evening with a Guided Haunted Trail.

Staff and volunteers from the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center as well as the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society will be at Dorothea Dix Park Saturday after dark to do some Skywatching. Lumpy"s Ice Cream will also be there if you need a treat after you've looked through the telescopes.

Teens 12-16 are invited to ride the Teen Fright Train Monday at Pullen Park where they will complete as many phobia-inspired challenges as they dare. Overcoming each fear may unravel the unsolved mystery.

Calling all friendly vampires, ghosts, goblins, and ghouls: You're invited to a Costume Party Monday morning at Edison Johnson Community Center where there will be spooktacular games, crafts, and fun!

Kids Get Crafty Monday at Crowder District Park when they will create a Monster Craft to take home.

Join Powell Drive Park on Tuesday evening and get caught up in their web of take-home arts and crafts activities, music, games, prizes and goodie bags of healthy treats.
