This weekend's events are all about Halloween and Fall! One more great weekend where there is something fun to do for just about every age and interest. The State Fair continues through Sunday if you haven't had a chance yet to take in all the sights and sounds the Fair has to offer.
Getting in the Halloween Spirit
Meet a tarantula, create your own mask, send a secret message and explore the labs with some mad scientists during Spooky Saturday at the Museum of Life and Science. Wolf Awareness Week continues through Saturday at the museum also.
The Haunted Mordecai Free Festival and Lantern Tours are next weekend, but the fun starts this weekend with Haunted Trolley Tours. Come enjoy a late night tour of downtown Raleigh's most haunted places, including the City Cemetery.
Join the Town of Cary at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center for a Haunted Twilight Tour of historic downtown Cary. Your tour guides will share spooky legends and tales of yesteryear, guaranteed to send a chill up your spine.
Boo at the Zoo will treat kids to a whole bunch of fun activities like games, music, face painting, treats and even a costume contest. You might even see some fall color on your drive out to Asheboro.
For the not so scary crowd, Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie will be playing at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.
Halloween Spooktacular is a free event for children 12 and under to celebrate the season with a variety of ghostly games activities, hay rides, ghoulish face painting, Dracula"s haunted maze, and goblin for apples at the Flaherty Park Community Center.
This year's Tricks & Treats Halloween Bash at the Herbert C. Young Community Center is a bubbling cauldron of tricks and treats! There will be games, prizes, fun and frights will make it a silly and spooky night. The evening begins with a Carnival for the little ones and concludes with a Haunted House for the older set.
The Fall Festival at the W.D. Hill Recreation Center will have games tricks, and treats for kids 12 and under.
Music & Movies
The Fall Film Series & Friday Night Wine Bar returns Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art with the 1944 movie Hail the Conquering Hero. Saturday, join the museum for a Family Fun Saturday.
More than 300 quilts will be on display, with a juried show, wearable art, junior quilts, charity benefits, silent auction, raffles, vendors, and demonstrations during the A Thread Runs Through It Quilt Exhibit at the American Tobacco Campus.
If you work in Downtown Raleigh, take a break during your Friday afternoon lunch hour for a celebration of the drink that got you through the morning - coffee. Grab a free cup of Bean Street Coffee, learn how to sport stack and play games to win prizes.
Celebrate fall in Downtown Wake Forest with an outdoor fall concert. The Funday Sunday Downtown concerts will occur on Sundays through October and November.
History Comes Alive
Thursday night at the North Carolina Museum of History, you are invited to join a panel discussion women attorneys in public service. Rising to the Challenge: Women in Public Office includes a video in which female chief justices from our nation's top state courts talk about their experiences.
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be running Heritage Tours of the fully restored mill.
Historic Preservation Society of Durham volunteers will lead a Durham Architecture & the Urban Landscape Walking Tour through downtown highlighting the many architectural styles popular in the 20th century.
Enjoy Fall in the Parks
Harris Lake County Park is going to the dogs! Bring your four legged friends for Dogtoberfest. There will be exhibits, games and lots of dogtastic fun for everyone! Also at Harris Lake, bring the whole family and join them for some Family Fishing Fun and Family Hay Wagon Rides.
Get out your water bottles and pump up those tires. The Cross Triangle Greenway Alliance is hosting a Cross Triangle Greenway Bike Festival. Join them on a 39 mile ride starting in Raleigh at the NC Art Museum and ending in Durham at the American Tobacco Campus. The ride is free and will feature snacks, water, giveaways and speakers at stops along the route. Click through for all the details.
The State parks are hosting several fun fall programs. Occoneechee Mountain invites you to join them on the river for a Fall Color Float Thursday. Saturday, you are invited to join the rangers on a Geology Hike, a Sunset Hike or a Fall Colors Hike . William B. Umstead State Park will host a hike and discussion on Park Wildlife and some Friday morning fishing with CATCH. Jordan Lake State Recreation Area invites you to do some Saturday morning fishing with them for CAST or on Sunday, take a Canoe Hike.
Did you know that Saturday is National Make a Difference Day? Come on out to Wilson Park to celebrate this national day of helping.
Do you want to see Lake Crabtree from a different perspective. Join park staff for Paddle Tour of Lake Crabtree and you will both learn basic paddling techniques and enjoy some nature watching.
The NC Wildlife Commission will be conducting a Hunter Safety class at the South Park Community Center. The class is required to obtain a North Carolina hunting license.
