Congratulations to all our area College Graduates! Looks like we will get a little break from the heat this weekend.

Science Thursday at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences brings Science Trivia to this week's Science Cafe.

Laurel Hills Park invites the whole family to join them for a Family Nature Night Thursday evening all about those Leapin' Lizards!.

Stop by the State Farmers Market in Raleigh Thursday at lunchtime for Strawberry Day. There will be free samples, recipes, Suzy the Strawberry, and of course lots of fresh, local strawberries.

The Wake County Public Library Festival of Reading and Book Sale starts Thursday and runs through Sunday with great deals on all types of books. The prices are low to begin with and the deals get better each day.

First Friday Happenings

Celebrate First Friday with the Raleigh City Museum. Each month features extended hours and special events.

Also in Downtown Raleigh, celebrate the new month with a First Friday Gallery Walk and extended hours at Marbles Kids Museum.

First Friday at the NC Museum of History includes beer samples from local microbrews and a screening of the film Funny Face.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences joins the fun Friday with an Adult Night: May the 4th be with You. There is an admission fee, but you get to Dance to the tunes of DJ Al-Ski Love of SPIN, meet real-world inspirations for galactic creatures such as dewbacks, porgs and dianogas, enjoy droid encounters with R2-D2 and BB-8 replicas, fight in their ultimate Laser Tag battle, harness your Jedi powers and more!

Iris after Dark returns to the North Carolina Museum of Art with music, special drinks and small plates. You are also invited to stay for the film The Love Punch.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center invites the public to the Opening Reception for the Latino Artist's Collective Friday night. There will be artists from at least 10 Latin American countries represented in the show that will run through June 8th.

Holly Springs will be celebrating Family Fun Night at Bass Lake Park. Kick off the evening by making some arts and crafts, meeting a live animal, or borrowing a fishing pole. End the night with a fun interactive concert with kid favorite, Trish Miller or a magic show with Dan the Magic Man.

Also, far from the city lights, you can take a Discovery Walk on the American Tobacco Trail as the sun goes down Friday evening.

Festivals and Special Events at Triangle Parks

If you missed Spring Daze in Cary last weekend, you have a chance this weekend to enjoy Apex Peakfest. A wonderful variety of crafters and artisans will be on hand displaying their creations while the stages will boast live family entertainment all day. Not only will there be an assortment of yummy festival food, but also a tempting collection of international fare. There will even be a Kids Zone area with rides and games for the younger population.

Saturday is Kids Appreciation Day in Holly Springs. Kids are treated to free food along with inflatables, face painting, arts & crafts, music, a motorcycle & fire engine display and the Terrific Kids Ceremony at Sugg Farm Park.

The Oaks and Spokes Bicycling Festival 2018 kicks off Friday with a variety of events through May 26th. Join them for Bike Repair-o-Q-o-Rama-Thon, Marbles Bike Rodeo, Frankenbike Parts Swap, Kidical Mass Ride, 7 Murals + 7 Stories, BikeRaleigh PepRally, Light Up the Night Ride, Capital City Ride, Bike-In Movie: BMX Bandits, 4th Annual Raleigh Cat, CycloFemme Ride & Tea Party, Ride of Silence, Bike to Work Day, Raleigh History Tour, and a Neon Art Ride.

Bring your pooch to Rock Quarry Park Saturday for Canine Field Day or head on over with the leash to Buffaloe Road Athletic Park for their Dog Park Opening.

Downtown Cary will also host En Plein Air Paint the Town Saturday. The streets will come alive as artists take to the streets to Paint the Town!

Meet in the Street is back to downtown Wake Forest Saturday. Join them for a day filled with food and entertainment including live music and children's activities. Wake Forest will also host a Bike Safety Fair Saturday for kids ages 5 to 14.

Saturday is the annual Friends of the Page-Walker Herbfest in Cary. Tour the gardens; stroll through booths selling a wide variety of herbs, crafts and garden products; and be there for the butterfly release.

Learn about Fuquay-Varina's history through interesting demos and displays, old fashioned games for kids, and tours of their museums during Saturday's Heritage Day.

Gnomes & Fairies Spring up at Prairie Ridge Saturday to celebrate spring with scavenger hunts , balloon animals, a gnome and fairy village, story time, ladybug hunts and a parade.

Saturday at Nash Square there will be a parade and Memorial Service to honor Fallen Firefighters.

Plenty of family activities including story sharing live music, food vendors, poetry, crafts and interactive family games will all be a part of Sunday's Carrboro Day Celebration.

Over 50 Food Trucks from across the State of NC with silent power and seating for up to 1,000 people will come on out for Sunday's Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo.

Fun at the Parks

The farmer's markets are still celebrating their Grand Openings. Holly Springs will kick off the season this Saturday with plenty of fresh produce, live music, kids activities and the Holly Springs Fire Department with Cinder the Fire Dog.

Join Lake Crabtree County Park's bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for our birds Saturday morning.

They will be conducting Old Mill Tours Saturday and Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday at Historic Yates Mill Park. Join them anytime Saturday through Monday for an Art in the park opportunity to create some Summer Blooms at Yates Mill Pond.

Preservation Durham has partnered with The Nasher Museum of Duke University and the Museum of Durham History to create a Bicycle Tour of the Historic Murals of downtown Durham the first Saturday of every month.

Join an Eno River State Park Ranger Saturday for Pokey Puppies, an opportunity to hike with your dog to Bobbit Hole or Build-A Bird while you learn about bird adaptations. Join a park naturalist Sunday for a hike on Buckquarter Creek Trail to identify Invasive Species that bloom, crawl, and creep in the park.

Hop on over to Harris Lake County Park Saturday to learn all about Fabulous Frogs. Come back Sunday for a History Hike and take a trip out to the Butterfly Highway.

Come to Falls Lake and get a leg up on the competition for their annual fishing tournament by learning to Build and Use Your Own Fishing Rod Saturday afternoon.

Come discover how the North Carolina Zoo is actively involved in conservation programs and what you can do to help in your own backyard during Saturday's Saving Species Across North America Event.

This Sunday's Spring Hike at West Point on the Eno will hike to the Panther Branch Natural Area to see the spectacular wildflowers

Music, Museums & the Fairgrounds

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host the Original Coin & Currency Show and the Neuse River Trains - SPRING Into Trains Show.

The North Carolina Museum of History will be Sowing the Seeds of Victory Saturday for their first garden event of the year.

Durham Symphony will present a Pops in the Park concert Saturday afternoon at the Orange County School Board facility.

Spaceballs will be the featured flick Saturday after dark at Dorothea Dix Park.

The Six Sundays in Spring Concert Series is back again at Carroll Joyner Park with Capital Transit .

Kung Fu Panda will be the Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

The Hob Nob Jazz Series kicks off this Wednesday at Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park with Atomic Rhythm All Stars.
