Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the holiday buzz is already in the stores! This weekend commemorates our Veterans. Join them Downtown Raleigh Saturday morning for the annual Veteran's Day Parade followed by a wreath laying on the Capitol grounds.

Learn about the significance of Veterans Day and make thank-you cards to send to some of our veterans Friday at Historic Yates Mill County Park.

Join them Sunday at Cary's Veterans Memorial for a ceremony in observance of those who have served our country featuring speakers from the Town of Cary and local armed forces community support groups.

Holly Springs will honor those who have served in our nation's armed forces during the town's annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Park Monday morning.

2017 Santa Train Ticket Sales at the Museum of Life and Science went on sale to the General Public November 7th. The event sells out every year very quickly so get your tickets now while there are still some available.

The 'Jump for the Children' Horse Show - benefiting Duke Children's Hospital at the State Fairgrounds started Tuesday and runs through Sunday.The event will feature an International Hunter Derby Friday night and a Grand Prix on Saturday night. Spectator Admission is free for all but the Grand Prix Saturday.

Fairs & Festivities

Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will host Saturday Tours of the renovated mill as well as Mill Heritage & Local History Tours on Sunday.

More than 100 Craftsmen featuring a large variety of Handcrafted Items will be at the Raleigh's Farmers Market Fall Craft Fair Friday through Sunday along with all the great local fall produce to help you kick off your holiday shopping.

Fred Fletcher Park will host Raleigh's Fall Arts Fair featuring over 50 Exhibitors, food trucks, music, poetry and crafts for all ages.

The North Carolina Museum of History hosts a panel of scholars discussing the Lasting Legacies of World War I on Saturday and they will be offering Military History Highlights Tours on Sunday.

Also at the Museum of History Sunday, a Music of the Carolinas concert will celebrate Armistice Day weekend with Raleigh's bagpipe and drum band.

Animated Storytelling Comes to Raleigh with OMAi Mapping Stories. There have been activities spread over a two week period but the fun comes to a close on Tuesday night with the Medal of Arts Session at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Great Fall Fun For the Whole Family

November is Pecan Pickin' Month at Historic Oak View County Park. Come on out to harvest a small bag of pecans from their grove.

Harris Lake County Park will host two morning sessions of Family Disc Golf including both lessons and playtime for players of all levels on Saturday.

Join Eno River State Park Sunday for a discussion of Britain's reintroduction of the keystone species of beaver and the Eno's resident beaver

Take a Big Canoe Adventure Monday at Falls Lake State Recreation Area in their two 14-person canoes!

Crowder Park will be hosting their pre-school programs this week along with a Food Drive.

Art and Culture!

PJs & Popcorn Movie Night comes to Apex Community Center for the whole family Friday night. The featured flick will be Moana.

2nd Friday Art Walk returns to Downtown Carrboro. Many of the galleries will have live music and other art related entertainment. Second Friday of the month also brings Art After Hours to Downtown Wake Forest as the streets come alive with food, merchants and music!

The North Carolina Museum of Art kicks off the weekend Friday night with Iris after Dark Enjoy a delicious selection of small plates and extended wine and beer selection as you lounge with friends and enjoy tunes of local DJs and musicians.

You are also invited to take a Weekend Family Friendly Tour or a Meet Your Museum Tour either Saturday or Sunday. These are re-occuring events at the Museum of Art every weekend.

Hill Street Community Center will host a Family Movie Night Friday complete with drinks and popcorn.

Durham's tobacco heritage is explored through the stories and experiences of Durham residents on the second Saturday of every month on a Tobacco Heritage Walking Tour.

The Burwell School Historic Site invites kids to their Pop-Up Museum for Young Historians Sunday. Come conduct a fascinating and fun look at historic documents.

A Fun Day Trip

If you are looking for a fun day trip outside the Triangle, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro is a great destination. The Museum is an awesome blend of children's museum, science center, an outdoor zoo and the Carolina Sciquarium. With lots of hands on exploratory opportunities for little ones, science shows and displays for older kids, a beautiful outdoor area with a wide variety of animals in natural habitats, and live sharks, penguins, fishing cats, stingrays and exotic fish, the center can keep the whole family engaged. The museum also sits adjacent to a large park and lake which make for a great picnic opportunity.
