The weather is back in a warming trend so enjoy getting outside as we celebrate Groundhog Day.

First Friday and Groundhog Day

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences invites teens Friday evening for a Teen Science Cafe on Science for All, all about Citizen Science projects.

Also in Downtown Raleigh Friday, join them for a Downtown Gallery Walk and extended hours at Marbles Kids Museum and the North Carolina Museum of History. Enjoy making your own valentine-related craft, enjoy Valentine's Day snacks and beer samples and then stay for the classic film, Bringing Up Baby at the History Museum.

Kick off your weekend at the North Carolina Museum of Art with Iris After Dark, a weekly event featuring music, small plates and special drinks. Stay for the Winter Film, The Rider.

Also after dark Friday, the Piedmont Wildlife Center invites you to join them for an Owl Prowl at Leigh Farm Park.

Happy Groundhog Day!! Sir Walter Wally will be deciding how soon to expect Spring's arrival Saturday at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' annual Groundhog Day celebration. The day's activities kick off at 9 am. and run through 4 pm. The shadow ceremony where he'll make his prediction begins promptly at noon.

Snerd the Groundhog will reveal his prediction to the Mayor of Garner at noon Saturday over at White Deer Park. There will be crafts, games and educational tables featuring live animals.

Prairie Ridge Ecostation will take a walk through the prairie Sunday looking for their Groundhog and any other signs of wildlife, then conclude the walk with a groundhog craft to take home Sunday afternoon.

Join Historic Yates Mill County Park anytime Friday-Sunday for a drop in program on Wizened Woodchucks & Weather Predictors.

Festivals and Family Fun

Duke Energy brings Family Day to the North Carolina Museum of Art Saturday with some Musical Adventures. Join them for hands-on art- and sound-making activities, plus performances that bring works of art to life.

In Durham Saturday, there will be a Powwow at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. The NCSSM Powwow is a public, family-friendly event featuring music, dance, arts, crafts and food with American Indian dancers, musicians and artists from across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The Tuesday Morning Movie at the Halle Cultural Arts Center will be Rio. Wednesday's Movie at the Halle will be Operation Finale.

More to do at the Parks

Join Lake Crabtree's bird enthusiast Saturday morning and go Birding with Vernon.

Join them at Harris Lake County Park Saturday for Geocaching 101. Learn what geocaching is all about and head out to find a real geocache in the park!

Its another Citizen Science Saturday at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife Learning. These Saturday morning adventures will introduce you to a citizen science project and enlist your help collecting and entering data as you enjoy a walk around the grounds with one of their naturalists.

Sunday's Winter Hike at West Point on the Eno will explore the Confluence Nature Preserve and its mysterious stone etchings.
