Spring is here and so is our quirky weather. There are a bunch of great indoor and outdoor activities scheduled this weekend so you can find something fun to do no matter what the weather brings.

The Fun Starts Friday

FrogFest, one of Crowder Parks signature events, takes place on April 9th. There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into a successful festival. If you, or your teen is interested in helping them get ready for FrogFest, head over to the park on Friday for a FrogFest Workday.
Art in the Evening is back at the North Carolina Museum of Art with the 1948 film the Red Shoes. While you are there, Stop by Jazz on the City Block and enjoy the talents of jazz vocalists and musicians, before seeing the exhibit 30 Americans. The Jazz returns Saturday afternoon, too.
Bring the whole family back to the Museum of Art Saturday for Haiku, Hip-Hop, and Hotdogs with Crabgrass Puppet Theatre. The morning and afternoon Children's performances will sandwich a Drop in Craft.
Also on Saturday, the Tarheel Tale Tellers will be performing new adaptations of contemporary children's illustrated books at Marbles Kids Museum.
 
The Future and the Past Come Alive
 
This is week four in March Science Madness at the Museum of Life and Sciences. This last week features Nano Days and Creatures of the Night with Rob Mies. Nano Days is free with museum admission and features hands-on programs and demonstrations about nanoscale science, engineering and technology. Creatures of the Night with Rob Mies does have an additional fee.
Learn about BW Wells, the pioneer ecologist and early botanist of North Carolina, through ecological games, displays and exhibits, geology and wildflower hikes, and canoe tours at Falls Lake.
The Wake Volunteer Guard a War of 1812 Reenactment Company invites you to a Militia Muster at Mordecai Historic Park. Along with musketry, you can also enjoy diplays, musket drill and firing, and living history demonstrations of what it was like to be a citizen soldier 200 years ago.
Soldiers of the Old North State will set up an encampment at Bennett Place State Historic Site throughout the weekend displaying the uniforms and equipment of these Tarheel soldiers. Additional activities include drill demonstrations and musket firings.
Historic Yates Mill Pond County Park will be conducting both Mill Technology Tours and Heritage Tours of the fully restored mill.
Sunday afternoon you are invited to take a Curator's Tour of the The North Carolina Museum of History's new exhibit, The Photography of Lewis Hine.

Family Fun at the Parks

Saturday is Cary's Annual Kite Festival at Bond Park. In addition to a multitude of award categories, there will also be stunt kite demonstrations and demos.
Anderson Community Park is also hosting an Annual Kite Fly. Bring out your kite and enjoy the fun. Kids can come early and design their own paper kites!
Have you ever wanted to try Mountain Biking? The Triangle Off-Road Cyclists invite you to join them for a Mountain Bike Skills Clinic and Ride. After some instruction, they'll break into ability levels and ride some trails!
Come on out to Lake Crabtree County Park and watch the Triangle Model Yacht Club sail and race their radio control yachts.
Come, learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders and explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist on a Geology Hike.
Bass Lake Park invites you to join them Saturday morning for VIP Habitat Enhancement & Mini Sweep .
Celebrate the completion of Creek Week at Eno River State Park with a Turtle Trek. You can also learn about Spring Amphibians on a short hike,do some Birdwatching with one of the park experts or explore the forest at night on a Night Hike. Sunday afternoon at Eno, you can take a Fiddle Head Hike.
Blue Jay County Park invites your whole family to get Wild about Woodpeckers. Learn all about these hard-headed birds and make suet feeders to take home.
 
Lots to do at the Fairgrounds
 
Discover Indian cultural arts through dance, music, cultural cuisine, and traditional crafts in a Bazaar-style atmosphere at IndiaFest.
The Making Magic Alliance helps to promote the health, economic and educational success of vulnerable children and families in Wake County. The Making Magic Family Expo is their one-day fund and awareness raising event that will feature inflatables, games, summer camp providers, Wii games, all day entertainment and a Car Zone with cool cars.
Have your kids grown over the winter? Are you looking for some great bargains? The Children's Spring Clothing and Baby Equipment Sale runs this weekend and will have children's & Maternity clothing, toys for all ages, books, games, videos, bikes, bedding, shoes, baby equipment and much more.
The area Kennel Clubs will be at the fairgrounds competing in the Kennel Club Dog Show.
American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Roadsters and Hackneys will be the breeds featured in the Raleigh Spring Premier Benefit Horse Show.
You can also drive over to the State Farmers Market in Raleigh on Saturday for a Car Care Fair. Pop open your hood for a free, no obligation check up for your car.
The Holly Springs Police invite you to head downtown for their second Public Safety Event. Saturdays event will feature a $5 Rabies Clinic, Document Shredding and a Medicine Drop. Click through for all the details.
