Hope you had a fantastic Independence Day Holiday! As we get back in the routine this week here are a bunch of fun activities to keep the spirit of summer alive.

2nd Saturdays at the NC Historic Sites

The Second Saturday events are back at all 37 NC Historic Sites this weekend. We will highlight the events here in the Triangle, but if you want to explore some of the other sites, go to 2nd Saturdays for the complete list.

Step outside the State Capitol and enjoy "everything outdoors" at Union Square, one of Raleigh's five original parks! Learn about landscape design with N.C. Executive Mansion groundskeeper. There will also be a live raptor program and a monument scavenger hunt.
Come learn how to make Glass Jewelry with a jewelry designer and make your own paper beads during a Make it, Take it program at the North Carolina Museum of History.
Pork, Pickles and Peanuts at Duke Homestead State Historical Park will include a barbecue cook-off and juried competitions of pickles, pies, and preserves. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy historical cooking demonstrations as well as art and craft vendors throughout the site.
A collection of various artisans will demonstrate the impact of the textile industry in the Tar Heel state along with living history life on the farm activities at Bennett Place Historic Site.
Bentonville State Historic Site will give a presentation on clothing and fashion on the Civil War home front and host authors Deanna Klingel and McKendree Long as they present their new books.
The North Carolina Museum of Art joins in the fun with the Power of Patterns, an interactive family program.
Historic Hillsborough invites you to join them for Family Fun Day. Family Fun Day will include guided tours, children's activities, artisan demonstrations, a farmers market, shopping, and dining.
History and antiques go hand in hand. The State Fairgrounds is hosting the Raleigh Antiques Extravaganza all weekend in addition to the State 4-H Horse Show.
 
Music for Everyone at Outdoor Concerts

Members and friends of the Triangle Wind Ensemble will present Mozart by Moonlight at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center as a continuation of the Starlight Concert Series.

On the second Friday night of each month the streets of downtown Wake Forest come alive with food, merchants and music! Art After Hours invites everyone to come enjoy the evening and kick off your weekend.

Bring your blanket to enjoy the Canady Thomas Band at the Holly Springs Cultural Center's Outdoor Concert.

John Vettel will be performing an energetic and interactive show for young children this Sunday at Fred Fletcher Park.

DJ Piddipat will spin reggae & caribbean music from her prodigious music collection at the Durham Central Park.
The Proud Fight Block Party comes to Downtown Raleigh with music, food vendors, merchandise vendors, face painting, inflatables, mascots, the Carolina Chargers, a free community health screening, the Rex mobile blood unit for blood donations, and DKMS bone marrow registry.
Join the staff from American Dance Festival for African beats and simple movements that get your heart pumping during Project Dance workshops at Marbles Kids Museum.
DJ Pittipat will be spinning the tunes at W.D. Hill Recreation Center during an evening of Family Roller Skating.
You are invited the the Sertoma Arts Center for the Opening Reception of works by The Cary Photographic Artists, Kristie Kim, and Walter Marinetti on Sunday afternoon.

 

Movies at the Parks & Museums
 

Friday night sizzles at the NC Museum of Art with The Town, the 2010 film written and directed by Ben Affleck. Go early and enjoy Art in the Evening while you are waiting for the sun to set. Saturday evening brings The Kids Are All Right, the fun comedy starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo.

 

Thursday night at Regency Park brings Red.

Aliens in the Attic will be showing at Falcon Park along with free popcorn on the hillside.

 Get Out to a Park

Come on out to Bass Lake Park for a little friendly competition at Bass Lake Family Bingo Night.

 

They will be enjoying Night Skys and S'mores at Crowder Park Friday night during Crowder by Night.

Explore Yates Mill's business and social history through a Heritage Tour. After a presentation on the mill's owners and operations you get to explore the first floor of the fully restored mill and see how power is transferred from the mill's waterwheel to its grist-milling machinery.

Join park staff at Lake Crabtree County Park as they identify common tree species and discuss the many benefits associated with Terrific Trees.
Due to the Triangle Triathlon, Harris Lake County Park will be closed on Sunday.
Bring the whole gang out to Sertoma Arts Center Saturday morning for a Family Nature Hike.
Explore the Haw River during a guided Canoe Paddle at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.
If you are a history buff, you might want to tour the Piper-Cox Open House. The restored historic home will be open for visitors and a park ranger will be on hand to share stories about its inhabitants and pioneer life.
