This weekend is a transition between the summer movies and concerts and the fall festivals and harvest celebrations. Its hard to tell what Irene will bring, so if you aren't sure an event is happening, call the contact information we list for each venue to confirm before you go.

Festivals & Family Fun

Bring the whole family out to Harris Lake County Park for
Parkapalooza (the festival has been canceled). The annual family festival will feature hay-wagon rides and fishing fun as well as games and activities that will help you discover the wildlife in the area.

The annual Lazy Days Arts & Crafts Festival (the festival has been CANCELED) is back this weekend in downtown Cary. Along with an amazing array of artists and crafters displaying their wares, the festival boasts lots of great festival food, non-stop, live entertainment and a festival within a festival, Kids World. Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Raleigh Area and several area sponsors are hosting the Annual Children's Good News Spectacular. The free event at the NC State Fairgrounds will feature inflatible games and rides, popcorn, snow cones & drinks, and an illusion show blended with several gospel presentations.
The 2011 University of North Carolina football team will host "Meet The Heels" Saturday evening. Following their introduction by the new "Voice of the Tar Heels" Jones Angell, players will be available for autographs. Also, there will be a Carolina Kids Zone with inflatable games and other activities for kids and free Carolina football trading cards, schedule cards and posters.
Come on out to Womble Park and celebrate Costa Rico's Independence Day at the Fiesta de la Paz on Sunday.
Starting next Monday, Marbles Kids Museum invites you to join them for a week long Birthday Celebration.

History

Sounds of artillery and musket fire will once again ring out as costumed re-enactors demonstrate the daily routine of Civil War soldiers during a Summer Artillery Program at Historic Bentonville Battlefield.
View a brief presentation on Historic Yates Mill owners and operations in the Finley Center auditorium, then head to the mill to explore the first floor of the fully restored mill and see how power is transferred from the mill's waterwheel to its grist-milling machinery during a Heritage Tour.
Saturday afternoon at Historic Yates Mill County Park, you can also travel back in time and learn about Colonial Tradespeople and how they contributed to the community through their trades. Participate in hands-on crafts, too.
And if you are interested in helping to interpret Historic Yates Mill, you may want to attend Beginner Mill Interpreter Training.

Movies & Music in the Triangle

Pack a picnic dinner Friday night and bring the whole family over to the Burwell School Historic Site for a Family Movie Night. At dusk they will be showing the Disney film, "Toy Story" along with free popcorn and punch.
The Natural Science Center of Greensboro is melding songs from the band Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon with a laser show this Friday for an entertaining presentation of Laser Floyd.
The Motown Soul and Blues sounds of the East Coast Rhythm & Blues will be filling the night air over at the Holly Springs Cultural Center Friday night.
The 2010 film, Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio will hit the big outdoor screen for Movies on the Lawn Friday night at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
The Museum of Life & Science welcomes you to kick off your weekend with Fridays Made Easy. They are keeping the outdoor exhibits open until dark and the indoor exhibits will close at 9pm. There will even be light dinner and beer and wine available for purchase. To make it even easier, there is a Buy One Admission, Get One Free opportunity on their website.
Let all your teachers know that Saturday is Teacher Appreciation Day at the Museum of Life and Science. Along with a Teacher ID, every teacher gets free admission all day for them and a guest. Click through for the schedule of special events.
Saturday morning at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, treat your kids to the movie, Mars Needs Moms.
Saturday evening, the Bud Light CityFest (has been Postponed to Oct. 8th) will bring the band Live to the Raleigh Amphitheater. The tickets for the concert will only be $5. Live sold more than 8 million copies of their 1994 debut album and posted a string of hit singles in the mid 1990s.
Veteran singer/guitarist Bruce Naegelen will treat shoppers to Music at the Market Saturday morning at the Downtown Fuquay Farmer's Market.
As a great finale to the weekend, Triangle Taiko Taiko will be performing traditional Japanese drumming Sunday evening out at Fletcher Park.

Join a park ranger at William B Umstead Park for a peaceful hour of Fishing Fun on Big Lake Friday morning.
Come, learn about Occoneechee Mountain's geologic wonders and explore the pyrophyllite quarry with a real geologist Saturday morning on a Geology Hike. Saturday afternoon, you can discover what Dragonflies can be found at Occoneechee on an easy hike around the ponds
Did you know it is the Year of the Turtle? Head on over to the American Tobacco Trail Saturday and meet a live turtle, play some turtle games and make a turtle craft.
Durant Nature Park invites you to take a Family Walk in the Park with them Tuesday night. Its a great way to unwind after a busy day at work or school.
The Hunt Horse Complex at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds will host an Outdoor Horse Show all weekend.
