This weekend there are some fun festivals, several movies and a wide variety of concerts so no matter what you're in the mood for, we can get you out enjoying your summer weekend and Fathers day

Come on out to Historic Yates Mill County Park Thursday afternoon for some Flag Day Fun. Delve into the history and lore of the American flag, explore the more than 30 national flag designs that have been used over time, and learn to cut out a five-pointed star like Betsy Ross.

Twilight Summer Hours return to Marbles Kids Museum every Thursday and Friday through the summer with extended hours and reduced admission.

Also Thursday at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, the Science Cafe will explore Citizen Science Tips for a Healthy Home.

Downtown Morrisville will host a Music in the Park Concert Thursday evening featuring the classic salsa and latin jazz sounds of West End Mambo.

Back Porch Music on the Lawn brings Nikki Hill to the American Tobacco Campus Amphitheatre Thursday evening for some true rock and roll.

Wonder Woman will be the featured flick Thursday after dark for Movies Under the Stars in Downtown Chapel Hill.

Join an Umstead State Park Ranger for a Night Hike Thursday to explore the nocturnal animals you can find in the park.

Festivals & History

The Peak City Pig Fest is back to Historic Downtown Apex this weekend. Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, teams from all over the country will come to compete against each other for prize money cooking chicken, ribs, beef brisket and pork. Along with great food, there will be live music, a kid's area, pig races, and a corn hole tournament. The festivities actually start Friday night and continue through Saturday.

Join Lake Crabtree County Park Saturday for their annual Pollinator Festival.There'll be lots of fun stuff to do like scavenger hunts with prizes, crafts to make, and games to play, as well as local experts to answer your questions.

Historic Yates Mill County Park will be hosting some Country Dancing in the Mill Yard, a wayside exhibit on Herbs and a Historic Trades program on The Printer on Saturday. They will also be giving Corn Grinding Demonstrations both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, come learn about Soap Making and Butter Churning.

Durham will host a Civil Rights Heritage Walking Tour Saturday morning focusing on the sites in downtown Durham that were important during the 1950s and 60s Civil Rights movement.

Durham's Juneteenth Celebration will take place this Saturday in Downtown Durham. There will be entertainment, vendors, health fair, children's village and a marketplace.

On Saturday, spend a Night at the City of Raleigh Museum. This will be the last weekend for this edition of their super sleuth adventure. Go on a scavenger hunt in the museum, make a craft, and enjoy an interactive performance!

SpringFest was rescheduled from May and comes to Morrisville Saturday. The event includes great entertainment, midway games, rides, live music and some of your favorite food trucks! Admission is free but bring money for food trucks and games!

Saturday is All Naval Services Day at the North Carolina Museum of History. Help honor the service and sacrifice of North Carolinians who served in the US Navy, US Marines, and US Coast Guard during World War I. Living history reenactors will be on site and both Carolina Museum of the Marine, and Battleship North Carolina will display artifacts from their collections. A lecture and a WWI Service Card search station will round out the day.

Its Dads Day Weekend at Marbles Kids Museum. Celebrate dad with a day of superheroes, Springfree Trampolines and DIY! Superhero Training Camp in the morning, MakeShop DIY in the afternoon, and challenge dad to a jump-off anytime from 10am-4pm.

The Durham Community Concert Band is hosting the 3rd Annual Triangle Community Band Festival! The Cary Town Band, Holly Springs Community Band, Raleigh Concert Band and the Village Band from Chapel Hill will be joining them for a Free Concert at beautiful Central Park in Durham.

The Wake Forest Charity Car Show will take place along South White Street in historic downtown Wake Forest Saturday.

Bring your family to Duke Homestead for a day of fun and hands-on learning. From local wildlife to good and bad bugs to farm animals, you will meet the creatures that would have been a big part of homestead life in the 1800s.

Come Celebrate Fatherss Day with 50+ food trucks plus live music by the Project 919 Band and local beers at Sunday afternoon's Food Truck Rodeo at Durham Central Park.

Music and Art for everyone

You are invited to the Opening Reception for the Triangle Math & Science Academy & Summer Youth Expo at the Halle Cultural Arts Center Friday evening. The show runs through July 20th.

Iris After Dark returns to the North Carolina Museum of Art with music, small plates and special drinks.

Head over to Downtown Durham for Third Friday with a gallery crawl, live music and more. Also in Durham, the Playlist Concert Series continues Friday night in Central Park with a concert by Laura Reed.

Fridays on the Front Porch of the Carolina Inn features local singer Brooke McBride and food trucks Porchetta and Hibachi Xpress.

Movies

Get out a blanket and the bug spray and head on out to watch an evening movie under the stars. There are even more great movies hitting the big screen this weekend!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle comes to the big screen Friday night after dark at Regency Park.

Head over to the Pit at Parrish Womble Park Friday after dark for the classic movie, The Lion King. The family-friendly event sponsored by Hope Community Church features free popcorn, drinks and $5 pizzas.

The North Carolina Museum of Art will be showing Say Anything after the sun sets Friday.

Durham Cinematheque also presents Old News (and How We Got It) as their Movie in the Park Friday night..

Friday's also Family Movie Night at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Join them for a special evening showing of Backyard Wilderness 3D along with hands-on activities and a Q&A.

The Monday Morning Movie at the Holly Springs Cultural Center will be Escape from the Planet Earth.

Get Outside at the Parks

Bring your kids to learn how to fish during CAST Saturday morning at Jordan Lake and stay to learn about the Bald Eagles that nest in the park.

Learn all about Animal Adaptations Sunday at Falls Lake.

Join an Umstead Park Ranger Monday to discuss some of the more common Wild Edible Foods found here in our area of North Carolina. You will discuss different types of berries, leaves, roots, and nuts in the classroom before going out to Big Lake to find some real life examples.

Come out to the Yates millpond and fish the old fashioned way Monday in celebration of National Go Fishing Day. They'll provide you with a cane pole, tackle, and bait, along with basic instructions and assistance with identifying fish species.

Historic Yates Mill County Park also invites you to stop by their Discovery Table starting Wednesday all about the longest day of the year, June 21st.

Historic Oak View Park will be hosting the Summer Food Service Program again this year. From June 18th through August 3rd, they will be serving lunch to all children 18 and younger every Monday through Friday. There will also be fun activities each day!
